Can someone please educate me on an aspect of GEC knives?

Duncan, excellent post first time around and a noble deed. However, I think the OP was poorly executed. The specifics effectively named you and I'm disappointed that you were put in a position where you felt obliged to explain yourself. GEC demand and pricing has been discussed to death in various threads here on the porch and i don't think it's constructive at all.

You are certainly entitled to whatever thoughts and opinions you choose, but I really think you might be a little off trail here. My initial post was meant to bring understanding as to why a GEC 15 TC Barlow might objectively bring such a price. With any knife, there is a subjective component to the decision to purchase it. Will it feel good in my pocket, is it the right size for my hands, is it an attractive knife, etcetera. I was interested in the objective reasons why somebody might pay a high price like that for a production knife. And what I heard were reasons like, "it's rare, only 12 made", " it might fill a hole in someone's collection", and " maybe someone is doing a nice thing for someone else by buying it for them." Those are excellent answers to my question and very helpful to me, possibly others as well.

My intent was not to call Duncan to the carpet and make him answer for his purchase. However, if you think about it, he is arguably one of the best people to answer my question. He's "been there, done that", so to speak, and I greatly appreciate the time he took to reply. I have the utmost respect for him and several others who have posted in this thread. I am not here to complain about the prices, the demand, or anything else for that matter. Nor am I here to judge anyone. Everyone is different. Sometimes decisions can be thought of as right or wrong, or better or worse, but there's none of that here either, at least from me.

With that I'm closing this thread as I have gotten my answer. Again, thank you to all who replied.
