Can someone please explain the allure of Sebenzas?

Yes,

Must by why Chris Reeve Knives has received so many awards from the industry year after year after year.

Oh, c'mon! Those are all rigged! <swig> G'damn Chris Reeve, winnin' this an' winnin' that... <swig> Guy in a wheelchair makin' knives...sure... Now, if you wanna good knife... yeah, I gotcha a good knife... a REALLY good... <SNORE>

I finally picked up a used Sebenza. Nice knife and I have nothing against it. It sits in my drawer while I continue to carry my Mini Griptilian. Someday I will sell it, though it was cool taking it apart.

I love my Mnandi, though!

I do not understand why no one has mentioned that the Seb is the best engineered folder around. The only folders that approach it are the Dozier's and the Klotzlie's

I think it is covered in chapter 2...or it might be in the appendix...

They should be sending that DVD out for free. Say what you want about Cold Steel but they send out a catalog and 2 DVDs at no cost.

Trolling? It's only my personal opnion based on personal experiences. It's not science nor fact.

No, it';s obviously not scientific, and it's definitely not factual, what was it that made you think the HT was poor? low sharpness, chipped edge, blunts quickly? if you give a post like that then you have to expect a few terse replies.

on the subject of sebenzas- i'm an 18 year old kid, and i think that the sebenmza was the best investment i have ever or will ever make. Thjey are expensive but:

1. they are exellent tools, get one, use it and see that the handle and blade are very well designed for almost all cutting tasks, it sits comfortably in the pocket and is still quite large in the hand making it unobtrusive to carry and easy to use, the blade is very well treated and though the edge may be a bit thick for deep slicing cuts it is perfect for most tasks and will stand up to some of the heavier stuff.

2. The thing is ROCK SOLID, try all you want, you just wont break it, i've battened with mine, and even used it to batten and it's still fine.

3. It's fantastically engineered, try dissassembling and then assembling another factory knife hndreds of times and see if it goes back together perfectly every single time, moreover find another retailer that actually engourages this. The pivot too can be tightened to full tightness and the blade will still move freely, this just shows how strong and precise the whole thing is.

4. It's simple and elegant- a knife with no bells and whistles designed for cutting things with, no silly serrated bits, tanto points, textured g10 dongles and tactical jet black coatings. Just a couple of bits of metal and a few screws. Perfect:)

5. Resale value- if you don't like it (maybe your mad or something) then you can sell it on for little or no loss, even if you've used it alot you'll still only make a tiny loss.

6. Chris reeves are a fantastic company to deal with, just email them and they'll sort you out with anything from a refurb to a new blade to spare fixings.

That's why i bought a sebbie, use it every day and like it more and more every time i use it.

Cold steel would probably do better with adult knife users by NOT sending the dvd's out.

Different DVD styles anyway. I recently came across one of the Proofs that Cold Steel had sent me, popped it into the player, and gave up shortly after from boredom.

They ARE great advertising for people who want an animated catalog of users and toys, and haven't got much experience to compare with otherwise. They DO perform a legitimate service in this regard, and they seem to pay off for the company.

But I learn more from each and every A.G.Russell catalog than from all the CS DVDs.

Dave

As usual, hits the nail on the head. A common theme from non "Sebbie" owners asking the owners to justify their purchase.

My only comment is - go buy one, use it, get it scuffed up and dull (may take a while) and then see the real value of a CRK Knife. Send it back to the "spa" at CRK and get it renewed. Their customer service are bar none the best in the business.

If you don't like the knife, simply resell it and most likely you will get your entire or close to your investment returned. If you do like it, guaranteed it won't be the only one you will own.

hmmm...this is good info

Dave, that's a great quote from Sal. Two things come to mind. First, Sal is not a CRK cheerleader -- he's a competitor. For me, this makes his statements all the more credible. Second, to state the obvious, Sal Glesser is a class act.

My advice to the Sebenza-curious is to buy one used on the for sale forum. They show up there regularly. Then use it long enough to determine if you like it. Make sure you take it apart at least once to see how it's put together. If you decide it's not for you, you'll very likely be able to sell it for what you paid for it. No risk involved.

An excellent remark and an excellent suggestion; you will get your money out of a Sebenza at resale if you don't like it. There is a reason CRK consistently takes the quality award at Blade.

As to the Sebenza, the attraction is a combination of the exacting tolerances and the absolute minimalism of the design. It have everything you need in a folder and nothing you don't. The fact that you NEVER have to adjust the blade pivot tension alone makes it worth owning.
