I've been making knives for about a year. Always using pins and epoxy. Would like to try bolted on scales. Mostly so when I acid wash a blade I can keep the tang acid and not sanded when I fit the scales.

I have been using 1/8" stock and almost always 1/4" thick scales.

What do I need for hardware and bits to counter sink? Something simple would be good. Something black oxid with an Allen head would be ideal.

Thanks fellas

That would do the job. Googled them and found some one maker material supply. They have counter bore bits as well.

I like the look of the fasteners on some of my half face blades knives. Little bigger head on them.

Don't buy their CT'BORE bits, they Suck!!!!

I love the supply company, and buy from them Often. But that tool is bad

I'm not a hardware guy, but I might try chainring bolts on some hatchets I want to do. They are a little big, and pricier, but good materials

Here's the half face blades hardware. I like the size and look. Just need to figure out where to find them. Then figure out what bit to use. Normal bit the size of the "barrel" then just a counter sink bit and take off little by little till the bolt head sits flush or slightly below flush?

I think these are the chainring bolts....
I'll see if I got any

The chain ring bolts I'm seeing have one side with a slot like a flathead. These hfb are Allen on each side. Wouldn't think it would be that hard to find, but I'll be darned if I can find them.

They are big though, I don't they they would look good on little knives.

I kinda found what I'm looking for....just not where to buy them. Keep finding sites you need to be a retailer or something. I think the general term for them is "sex bolts" found some with a flat socket head and 82 degree shoulder.

Then need the male side too. Might stop at some hardware stores tomorrow and see what I can fine. Who knows, sometimes can find some odd ball stuff.

82 degrees is Imperial
90 degrees are metric

You need to make sure your hardware matches your tooling. They are not interchangeable

I have some 82 degree counter sink bits. Is that the best way to do it? Go little by little till the heads sit how I want?

Try on a piece of scrap wood.
Idk if those are for countersink's or counter bore's
Bore might look cleaner?

Countersinks are for flathead screws
