I am thinking about buying a knives of alaska brown bear. Does anyone have this knife, Do you think it would be good for chopping wood around camp. It looks like a good strong blade, what do you guys think?

I believe its designed for skinning, plus the blade is a little short for chopping.

the brown bear is designed for processing animals, not chopping wood.

if you are looking to chop wood, why not get a camping ax or a camping saw?

If you want something like that, but is a chopping machine after a proper sharpening, you would be hard pressed to do better than the Ontario Knife Company's, Spec-Plus Machete, SP8. It is 1/4" thick, full tang, Made in America & has a very functional (although imported) sheath, all for about $57 to your door. A little neatsfoot oil on the leather parts & your good to go. I love mine. If i could only have 1 blade, this would be a strong contender.
