bought a SEKI CITY made spyderco endura II plain edge with stainless grips (i absolutely hate the polymer grips on most spydercos)

Ive sharpended this baby about 40 times, easy to sharpen, awesome edge.

what can the STEEL GODS here tell me about why VG-10 steel is so divine? :D

by the way, i bought 3 more of these knives theyre so awesome. When i croak, i hope they bury one with my rotting corpse :p

Well you could go further and check Fallkniven as most of their knives are VG-10 .Then go to Kershaw Shun or others for the kitchen knives of VG-10.I've done both to insure happiness !!

Mete, is right about Fallknivens, but I would warn you NOT to buy one. If you do you will buy many more. Fallknivens are to fixed blades as spydercos are to folders.

And yes! VG10 is magical. A perfect steel to me.

I really have nothing else to compare it to, but I like my Delica's VG-10. Seems to be better at draw-cutting than push-cutting, though (this was out of the box)... Must practice sharpening skills...

If you can tell me why mine isn't. I find it hard to sharpen does not get very sharp and does not stay very sharp for very long.

It took me some time to get into VG-10 (Spyderco). At first I found it hard to sharpen (even harder than S30V). I gave it another shot and now I really like it, takes a great edge and holds it. I found that I was sharpening at too steep an angle, I went lower and now have great results.

Kershaw also has a folder with VG-10, the Lahar. Under $ 65 at the pharmacy. I think someone sent one to Tom Krein for a re-grind...lemme look around...And the Shun knives are fantastic!

I had the Kershaw Lahar reground by Mr. Krein. here is the linky.

I love it! And yes, VG-10 is perhaps the best steel out there IMO

I would have to say it's one or a combination of the following scenarios:

1) Bad heat treat
2) You're cutting difficult materials that wear on steel faster than other materials
3) You're not very good at sharpening
4) you have an unrealistic expectations on what constitute as "sharp" or "staying sharp for very long"

Love the VG10 on both my Endura and Kershaw Lahar. On the Endura which is SE, the edge seems to last forever. Had it for years now and have used the knife from occasional kitchen chores to cutting beer cans in half for ashtrays. Still as sharp as ever. Would also like to be buried with my Endura, my do-everything knife.

i was told that japanese makers of BONSAI trees use this steel cause they NEED a steel that keeps a FINE edge and isnt a whore to sharpen in a snap.

i went to buy another endura, my local sportsman's whorehouse which had them for $80, ...told them to stick it where it isnt sunny...

went home and bought one on ebay for $40.00 HALF the price :grumpy: :D

my wife is mad that ive spent so much $$$$ on AK-47s and 2 machineguns recently, all i can afford are some nice knives.

Im stocking up on tactical assault weapons before that NAZI loser Obama gets into office and bans everything

Thankfully here in USA, I can still buy pre-86 machineguns and all the semi-auto AK-47's i can afford to buy. :D

Silly full-auto UZI's are already up to $7800.00 blahhh

There are three factors in the excellence of VG10
1. Excellent Alloy composition
C______1.00%
Cr______15,0%
Mo______1.00%
V______0.20%
Co______1.50%

All the right elements in all the right proportions.
The small amount of Vanadium refines the grain structure, providing a better steel. Also makes it eay to get that razor edge.
The Cobalt strenghthens the latice structure. Stronger steel holds an edge longer.
The Moly provides carbides and increases corrosion resistance.
A goodly combination of Chromium and enough Carbon to form carbides, yet still have plenty in the steel matrix for strength.

2) The steel is very clean. No impurities to decrease the properties. This is an often overlooked issue and one that users like us have no visibility of nor control over. We can only see the results.

3) Good heat treating. Never seen a spec for it. Wonder if it takes the blood of the knife maker to follow it.

In the words of Bill and Ted, "VG10 is excellent!"
(I used to live in San Dimas, the purported home of Bill and Ted.)

It pisses me off; there isn't a retailer around here that sells knives at New Graham's prices or Knifeworks' prices. And I hate ordering online...

Yep, and it's gonna happen. Get what you can while you can... Before we become a safer nation via disarming the citizens.
