Hi. Total newbie here. I know you folks like fine quality knives I cannot afford but I thought you might be able to help me find this cheapie?

I've had this belt loop carabiner locking knife for many years and I feel naked without it. I went back to the store I bought it but nobody even remembered selling it (all kids working there).

Unfortunately, it has no brand name on it so I've included a picture. I would prefer to get this exact knife if possible but if out of production I would like alternatives.

What makes it better than average is the locking bar that prevents cutting your fingers off when using the knife (it cannot close without pressing bar). The carabiner handle is all one piece so it won't fall apart as quickly as the 3 piece models I've seen.

The only reason I need to replace it is the
torsion spring on the belt loop clip has lost tension so it can fall off now. The stainless steel knife still works perfectly.

Please help if you can!

Kershaw offers one. Did a google search and turned up quite a few but none exactly like yours.

Yes I saw the Kershaw product. Customer reviews suggested that rivets that hold it together loosen rapidly. I tried searching too. I'm just hoping a collector might recognize it even though they would never actually purchase such a cheap knife.

I appreciate the suggestion and thanks for helping out a newbie!

I'm hoping someone is familiar with this exact model or can suggest one that has good reviews. As I said, despite its initial price this has lasted for many years.

don't know this exact knife but kershaw makes several different models of these, you can actually get some with descent blade steel

lol never mind left the computer for 5 minutes to help my daughter with something and a bunch of people beat me to it

Pretty sure I have 1 or 2 of those, I haven't actually used them in years. I got them as part of a vendor 'promo'. I'll have to look, next time in town in a 1-3 days...

I'm doubtful that you're going to find an exact replacement for your model carabiner, given the time that has passed since you bought it. I see a number of cheap and really really cheap models all over the internet (though I can't tell if all of them offer a locking mechanism for the knife blade). So, despite the negative reviews you saw about the Kershaw models, I would trust a brand name like Kershaw over a no-name brand.

Edit: Aaaaaaaand, I take back what I said about not finding the exact model. KDA89508 seems to have located it. But I don't take back what I said about buying from Kershaw.

I know you like that knife but why not upgrade to a kershaw?

It's always better to have screws you can adjust to rivets which well loosen over time with no adjustment.

I think I have found it. They have different colors! Good Luck! Kevin :D

That looks like it! Yahoo! I just joined Ebay and bought one. Hope it is as good as the old one.
I also purchased the Kershaw minibiner knife.

I learned on candlepowerforums that when in doubt always buy both! LOL

Thanks again everybody. Wow. You guys really make an effort to help out newbies. It's really appreciated.

Well the funny thing is the cheap one (reeeeeally cheap) works fine but they (ebay) sent the wrong color. The "good" one (Kershaw) has a decent blade but the carabiner clip doesn't close on its own. You have to guide it into a slot. The whole idea of the carabiner belt clip is to QUICKLY and easily clip on beltloop without fuss. This one requires fuss. No question I would eventually forget to double check and the clip would come off when I sit and I would lose my keys. The reason I was replacing the old one was the clip became defective after about 5 years. The Kershaw was designed to be defective. I doubt I'll bother returning it because I doubt the next one will be any better. The reviews were right about Kershaw.

I only returned because you were kind enough to ask and to warn other members to stay away from the minibiner.

Ironically, it is more important that the carabiner works well than the knife. It doesn't matter how good the knife is when you lose it along with your keys.

If anybody runs across a quality carabiner knife with space to hang keys and you've actually seen it please let me know.

Thanks everybody.

OK, go to kershawknives.com and go to warranty. send an e-mail to kershaw and ask them if that was how the biner was designed. if so, then i am not impressed. if not, then you can mail it to them and you will wither get it repaired or get a new knife. they have the best CS in the buisness.

I did call. Customer service rep claimed she never heard of a problem with the clip. She should read comments at amazon. She also said broken clip may be covered under warranty but not clip that doesn't go into slot. She suggested I return to the authorized dealer I purchased it from (in othet words go pound sand).

I have no confidence that if I mailed it to amazon the next one wouldn't be as bad. Looks like a poor design to me.

Ever considered a short (1-2 inch) fixed blade knife on a horizontal belt pouch? You could get way better strength, and not have to trust your precious fingers to a cheap lock. my $0.02

Of course you're right but I already carry so many things I just don't want to add one more. I use a knife very seldom but with the carabiner/knife setup I always have one. I already carry a lot of keys so I don't even want to add a pen knife to my 3 keyrings.

The carabiner/knife combo has worked well for me for years. I never try to get the knife to do much more than open a box or cut a string.

Ironically the 6 dollar ebay version locks but the "better" kershaw model doesn't - the knife could easily collapse on my fingers.
