Can we get an update on the new Military?

I remember in a thread about a possible updated Military Sal said something along the lines of it not happening till '07, and, since '07 has rolled around, can we get an update on this? I just have to know...:)

I think that was the Paramilitary update, and things are a little confusing on it. Sal posted one place that it was an early 2007 project, and another place that it was likely still a year out. So I guess he has it in the pipeline but it is going to take a while.

I have only heard the Para also...not that the Para really needs anything but Spyderco always manages to take it up a notch on models I don't think can get any better.

On the Spyderco forum he mentioned that they are considering making a lockback version of the Military. I hope it makes production :D

I would really like to see a compression lock version of the Military. I would have to acquire one.

Are any Military being made with CPM 440V steel like the original ones?.Does Spyderco make any knives in CPM 440V.

As far as I know, they don't make any knives in CPM 440V anymore. I have an old PE Military and a Lil' Temperance in the steel and I, surprisingly, gravitate to it more than S30V. For the record, CPM 440V apparently is a tradename for S60V (at least, BLADE says so). Currently Militaries are being made with S30V (I have one, like that a lot too).

Thanks,steelscout30.Appreciate your answer. You are correct, the CPM440V is now called the CPM S60V. I had heard that the S60V takes and holds a very sharp edge even with prolonged hard use.Has that been your experience with the old Military?.
Do you have one of the special run of Military in BG42steel?.If so how do you like that VS the S30V edition.

The reason that Spyderco no longer uses 440V/S60V is simple: Crucible stopped making it. I guess it was just too hard to machine, they apparently got a lot of complaints. I don't know what the big deal is, but then I use diamond hones for all my sharpening :D .

The BG-42 is nice stuff, takes a wicked edge and holds it well. Just keep it away from hard stuff (like finish nails that you can't see in the board you are cutting  ). S30V seems to take a more toothy edge, and it seems to lose that razor edge more quickly, but it holds a good working edge for a long time, and it deals with those unexpected impacts better in my admittedly limited experience.

Over in the knife reviews and testing forums, Sal stated in a thread that they'll be making the new Milis with something called a "stop lock".
