I DO NOT want to turn this into a political debate over Republicans and Democrats....

-----------------------------
I think that Gore put a nail in his coffin by picking soemone of a Jewish Religion as his running mate...I have nothing against jewish people, but havent like 99% of presidents and vices been catholic??..it's like a woman running for president, society isn't ready to accept it...

With all this said, I really, really think that Bush will win ... now here is my angle...

My friends dad is gonna have a dinner thing for Bush at his house in a few weeks I believe...maybe i can get Bush to look at balisongs in a different light?? ... I dunno if i'd be able to pull of a demonstration though( I'd prolly get jumped be SS agents if I pulled a bali out of my pocket)

But i sencerely think that the laws in the states need to be reworked with accordance to knives...i think the choice of weapons for street thugs now is a gun anyway...

I also own automatics ... I have a Combat Talon II that i LOVE, and I don't see how legalizing carrying it would be a bad thing...How many "gang members" would be willing to spend $400 on a knife to stab someone with when they can get a real nice gun for that price...you know what i mean??

anyways, just my two cents....

and let me just say, i have nothing against women, jewish people, Republicans, democrats, etc, etc...

If you check out the latest issue of Knife Illustrated, you'll see a picture (somewhere inside) of Mr. Bush holding a nice sized knife........... so maybe there is hope.

Don't tell Mike I did this...

Seems George W. is already proknife.

BTW, very few presidents and VPs have been Catholic. When JFK was running, this was very much considered a problem for him. How could a catholic be the leader of the US and, at the same time, be loyal to the Pope? Or so the arguement went.

Most presidents and VPs have been protestant.

I'm not sure if we've ever had a Jewish President or VP. Certainly not one quite this Jewish. It's gonna be interesting to see how it plays.

Unfortunately, liberalizing knife laws is not a winning political position these days.

But, if you have an opportunity, you might strike up a conversation with the Next President Of The United States, God willing, about pocket knives. From there, you could ease toward balisongs if the opportunity presented itself. Some people have to pay $1000 just to get a few words with him, so use whatever time you might get wisely. He is a great man and getting to meet him would be a great privilege.

Damnit...I meant protestant...Im in the habit of not really reading after i post...

Yeah, I think that a discussion would be less lethal(for me) then pulling a knife...even if i told him i was going to...there's prolly gonna be metal detectors or something anyways...

Well, unlike much of what is posted in this forum, this is something I actually know something about. As some of you may know, my father is a 'Fed.' Specifically, he is in the Secret Service, and no, you would not be allowed to pull out a knife in front of Gov. Bush, even with warning (without warning might get you shot), unless a background check had been performed and you were cleared to do so. They are kinda uptight about that kind of stuff. I may have met Gov. Bush at one point, and I have met his father several times; while I don't agree with all of his politics, the Bushes are nice people who I would be happy ot have as neighbors, and the hope that Gov. Bush might be pro-knife would be enough for me to vote for him. Hmm..., he's been trying to reach out to the hispanic community, maybe that's a good angle to use as far as balis are concerned.

Lemme put it this way,

My high school Econ teacher was a big friend of the Democratic party, and had managed to get Mondale to speak at our high school when he was the VP.

The secret service likes to keep everything to script at public events, and gets very antsy when things don't go to plan.

Well, about 5 minutes before he went on, Mr. Mondale decided he'd like to go take care of some business, so he looks over to my teacher and asks "where is the restroom?"

My teacher, being a friendly fellow points that it is just down the hall, and in the process, places his hand on Mondale's back. The next thing my teacher remembers is being 15 feet away from mondale pinned to the wall by agents

And you wanna show Bush your bali??

I think your balls will be too big to fit through the doorway to get in the house

Maybe I can give him a demonstration if I point a High Powered Telescope to my driveway and have him look through that??

I guess the Balis and Microtechs will have to stay at home... Although I bet he'd love the feel of a Combat Talon II blade slideing nicely into position...

Hopefully I can get throught and talk to him a bit though...I know there are gonna be other people there, and I bet everyone has soething or another to talk to him about...(If I end up going)

If we can get Bush to sign a Concealed Carry Weapons bill that encompasses the whole country, the likes that they have in Texas, I think you could carry just about anything you want as long as you have the CCW permit. I know in some states the CCW permit allows the carry of autos and such...

Chuck,

I went to the link you provided, interesting.

"Speach" is actually spelled,
"speech." "I listened to Cheney's
speach and found it...dumb."

Dude, why don't you box "W" up a nice, legal knife and hand it to the Secret Service for inspection as a gift to the President and tell them plainly what it is, a pocketknife, and request that it be presented to him at the party/meeting? Do not do this in his presence, just ask to speak to one of the Agents and explain to him that you would like to give him the gift and you know they want to check it out.

Money well spent.

You could also write a letter to "W" explaining the absurdity of knife laws, federally and state by state and see if an exemption of some kind could be gained.

As for a Federal Concealed Carry Permit, why on Earth would you want one issued on a National/Federal Level? The first Democrat that gained power after that and (snap your fingers) just like that, no more concealed carry.

The Secret Service have a very demanding job and they do it extremely well, don't screw with them!

Hey, that's not a half bad idea. Maybe a bunch of us should chip in, and we could pool our money and get something really nice.

I'm with Don on the Federal CCW, although I would like to see more consistency from state to state. Maybe they could lay on some pressure, like they did to get all the states to adopt similar traffic laws?

Also (something that is Federal), what about a repeal of the Federal Switchblade Act? I bet if that happened, the case could easily be made at the state level that state 'auto' laws should be relaxed/eliminated. Not technically bali-related, but food for thought, nonetheless.

It would be a dream come true if we just stopped focusing on weapons and controlling, regulating and banning them. It is a childish way to go about making laws, philosophically and logically. It is absurd.

We focus on the weapons and yet have this hardcore body of violent predators doing the same thing, over and over again, and then the younger guys just getting in the criminal game see nothing done...and along with the high recidivist rate, we have the mess we have. We fail to deal with criminals and focus on weapons. It is childish.

I would like to see the repeal of all weapons laws, guns, knives, switchblades, gravity knives, balisongs, blackjacks, brass knuckles, the whole smear.

Or, we could go the route of the so-called, "liberal intelligentsia" and put animals back on trial in this country. Start putting the knives and guns on trial. The cars and empty whiskey bottles of drunk drivers.

Some people simply despise weapons.

There will never be a federal concealed weapons license. The federal government has no authority to issue such a license. They can't even issue a federal driver's license.
The only reason my Oregon driver's license lets me drive in every other state in the union is that Oregon has a reciprocal agreement with every other state in the union to recognize most of each other's driver's licenses.

However, some states do not recognize some of some other state's driver's licenses. For example, some do not recognize licenses issued to persons below certain ages leaving a young driver licensed to drive in some states but not others. You can not drive a triple-trailer semi truck rig in Oregon without an Oregon license to do so (such trucks are illegal in most states, but legal in Oregon). Carrying certain hazardous cargos in Oregon requires an Oregon license.

Marriage licenses are also reciprocally recognized in all fifty states. This is why no state will issue a license for gay marriages. They know that if they did so, many states would withdraw from those reciprocal agreements and that would a big problem. So, by creating some other name for it, e.g. "Civil union," they can get around that.

The reason that driver's licenses can be reciprocal is that basic traffic laws are generally uniform across the entire country. There's no big reason for one state to fear that a driver licensed by another state is going to cause chaos on their roads. We all stop for red lights, all proceed on green lights, all drive on the right-hand side of the road, etc.

But, right now, concealed weapons license laws are not so uniform. Here in Oregon, a CHL holder may lawfully carry a concealed handgun into a bar. Just to the north in Washington, a CHL holder may not do so. And, this is just one trivial example.

Consider Vermont. In Vermont, every adult who is not a conviced felon, etc., may carry a concealed firearm. No extra license is necessary. How shall Oregon recognize this "license"?

There are some reciprocal licensing agreements in place already. The first was between Oregon and Idaho. Oregon would like to work one out with Wasington. But, there are to many people who live their lives between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington (two cities that would be one were it not for a state line between them), perhaps living on one side and working on the other, etc. Right now, Washington will issue an Oregon CHL holder an Washington license if only the Oregon CHL holder will make application and pay the fee. It's that fee that Washington State wants. With a reciprocal agreement, they'd loose all those fees. On the other hand, a Washington resident wanting an Oregon CHL must come to Oregon and take the same class that Oregon applicants must. So, it's a extra expense and inconvenience for Washington residents.

Eventually, the laws will become homologized and more and more reciprocal agreements will be established. Hopefully, eventually, every state will recognize every other state's CHL.

Right now, let's just concentrate on getting every qualified citizen of every state the option of having a CHL within their state.
