Can you add a lanyard hole to this knife?

Hi all,
I have a Gerber EZ out Rescue knife and I love it except that the one that I have does not have a lanyard hole and this would be an excellent knife for me if I could put a lanyard on it. The pocket clip is not the best, in my experience, and I would like to be able to put a lanyard on it so I can attach to either my belt or bag with an s-biner. Anyway, if I wanted to put a lanyard hole in it, how would I go about that? The handle is fiberglass filled nylon.
Separate topic: I have never had to sharpen this knife, but if I did have to, could I use the sharpmaker to do it? Thanks.

Not owning the knife it is hard for me to tell if you have the room for a lanyard. When the knife is closed there would have to be enough space below the tip of the blade and the edge of the handle. If you do you could drill the hole for a piece of SS tubing. Slightly countersink the holes then insert tubing and slightly flair both ends. Another way would be to add a pin into a smaller drilled hole and insert a ring around the pin if the back of the knife is open between the scales. The pin would need epoxy or a press fit to stay secure. Either method requires a little skill and the proper tools and hardware. There are others who might have a easier way and are familiar with this knife.
You should be able to sharpen the knife on the Spyderco without a problem.

If you're willing to have the blade reprofiled to make sure there's room, you could put a tube in there. It's hard to say from just a pic online.

I have the regular model and I think the handle has room but you may have to make it pretty small. I would make a paper cut-out of the blade and lay it on the handle over the closed knife and see where the blade is for sure in the handle when the knife is closed, that will tell you what you are dealing with for room .Iif you don`t know how to flair tubing you could get some small eyelets from the craft store and glue them into the new holes on either side of the handle to finish off the holes.
