I've had some luck dying certain polymers in the past. Can you dye G10? I've got a knife with foliage G10 handles that I was thinking about trying to dye OD Green. Didn't know if the G10 would take it or what.

Yes it will. Rit works fine. The powder works better than the liquid, but the liquid works too, just takes longer.

Do a search with "Rit Southard G10 dye" and you should come across a few threads. I wrote out some instructions in at least one of them, there are also pics. Hit me up if you need help.

Any advice on turning Foliage Green to OD Green? I was thinking of mixing a little Orange with Kelly Green. Dark Green I think will yield too dark (Almost a forest green) color.

Rit makes a ton of colors, they just aren't all available at most stores. I did find a very good selection at my local fabric store chain.

I can't tell you for sure which shade will get you the color you want. I can say, however, that you'll definitely want a green lighter than the wanted end color. I'd pick up a couple of light greens, then try using the lightest first. If it comes out too light try the next shade darker.

I used "Kelly Green" on my Southard. The stock color is a light brown. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Edit- this is the only pic that I have handy, but you get the idea.

I'll post some pics in this thread once I've finished my dye job. The knife should be here in about a week.

Just remember the orig color is blended w/ the new, not covered by it. Here's coarse PP earth brown G10 on an 805:

Yuck.... Here's where I took it, first step 45 minutes in yellow to max out that component, then second I drizzled a little navy into the mix for a shift to green which I monitored closely (5/10 minutes as I recall), removing when I had it where I wanted it:

I would recommend using the primary components rather than a mix-- you can fine-tune.

Thank you for the advice. That never occurred to me to do it in stages. That handle is dead on OD Green.

Yeah it turned out dead on (you always cross your fingers). Secret to ODG is ample yellow....

I have an extra pair of scales for my Para-military II, they are the camo ones. I tried to die them blue. I used RIT die. its the RIT that comes in liquid form, in a bottle. I boiled it and let it sit in the die for hours, I tried twice and the para2 scales didn't take it at all. What am IM doing wrong?

ericvar101: I assume your scales are G10 (?? IDK)-- this makes no sense. I use the powder not the liquid but I don't know why that would make a difference. When it sat in the dye for hours-- was it lightly simmering? Or cooling? Needs to simmer. I scrub the scales hard w/ a brush and hot soapy water to make sure they're clean-- is it possible yours weren't?

Maybe they had some kind of sealant on them. Try spraying them with carburetor cleaner to degrease and clean them.
