Can you get by with just a PSK ?

Gadgetaholic, You said in your post that you do not have a PSK.
I hope you do not mind if tell and show some items to put in one. This is mine as I have it now.
If you have any questions let me know I will sure try to help help you out.

I guess that I kinda have a PSK - but it is more a 'standard EDC loadout' rather than everything in a single pouch. However I do have a few useful things and because they are always on me they would be available in an emergency situation. I ride a 400cc motor scooter as my primary transport because I do a lot of city commuting and that is the best vehicle for the job. I do use it to travel further though and even to get me to a campsite: http://www.gigatech.co.nz/Knives/Camping 2/IMG_8411.JPG

Just in case I have a mechanical failure and find myself stranded in the middle of nowhere during the middle of the night I keep a few survival items in the scooter - a small FAK, an emergency blanket, a flashlight, a metal cup & some paracord.

I also have my EDC items:
3 Flashlights
1 Peanut lighter
Victorinox Cybertool
Leatherman Wave
Leatherman k502x

So yeah, interesting to see what other items people have in a PSK that I don't have with me when I am out riding. So - do you guys EDC the PSK? Is this small pouch of useful things kept in your pocket or in the car or just close at hand generally?

Hi all,
kuruptd, Thanks, Yes these kits are limited to some extent, but I tell ya I would reather have one than not lol. Getting lost and having to spend a night out is not going to be as fun as if you had your kit. I tell ya when you can even if it is your back yard set up one of them space blanket shelters just to see what it like. I tell ya I now carry a 9'X12' plastic drop cloth way more of it and way more room if I need to use it for a shelter.

Like most people I carried the space blankets you can get at the camping store but I read about a guy that used one of the orange ones and thought I am going to try that too. and it worked but still if I can I will carry my shoulder bag that has the 9' x 12' plastic tarp. If it was really a rainy time or even snowy the plastic drop cloth really shines over the space blankets.
But they normally do not fit in with the PSK kits unless your PSK is a 10x4 water bottle holder or a fanny pack or a small shoulder packetc.,
It looks like your kits is right there for the basics too. Way to go man.

Kage I am with ya on what you said. I will not say I sleep sound itmost fit ful
I dosed and then had to put wood on my fire. then back to dozing.
I was chilled at times when my fire burned down. But it was a great experence. I had not done any thing like that for most of 15 yhears. The older I get the more I feel the pains in my body lol. If I live to be 60 I will try it again and see what it like them too lol.

kage it sounds like you got some good practice in with what you did.

Horace Kephart calls it the supreme test when with what is in your pockts and with the cloths on your back.

Gadgetaholic, it sounds like you have your kit. It is always evolving.
Because things in life changes.

Great responese you all,

Bryan
