Can You Help To Identify This Mean Street???

Okay I finally found her after digging a little deeper, she's the pride and joy of the fleet!

I traded an A2, smooth finish and rivets, 1/4",a few months ago for an AD to somebody on this forum a few months ago. I love the AD but have a bit of trader's remorse. The MS was in the Airborne with me and was in some hairy situations with me as a fireman in Washington DC. Jerry, I hope you find it.

dc firefighter
apparently you have found it.
i kinna miss that ad too.
i thought it looked familiar in the pic.

Sorry Bravado, her holes are too small and distance between her last fastener and the butt is too short, look some more......

I checked at home and my 1/4" smooth fastener MS has the finish removed. The other thing that is wierd (besides the background) is how far the last fastener is from the butt of the knife, all eight of my MSs have the fastener only about 3/8" from the end of the micarta, Jerry's knife has it about inch or more from the micarta end, this knife looks to have a unusually long handle! The other feature that is different is it has the larger diameter talon and thong hole like the later slotted or tube fastener knives, the earlier smooth fastener knives had smaller diameter holes.

definitely interesting...

the closest thing i can see it being compared to is some of the slotted a2 editions -
ms11_hdiller.jpg

key visual differences:
the front taloin hole on jerry's knife appears to have been hand flown, creating an uneven outer circle, and it appears to have a slightly larger choil (possibly due to being hand ground)
seems like it has a longer handle, but it is more likely that it has the slotted mean street style handle slabs, that flare out at the front, and extend back to the rear lanyard hole, with bolts that are set closer to gether. kinda like the difference between the police recruites and the combat recruits handles.

crazy

Yeh, the more I look, the pic model has a unique pommel. All of mine are ground such that the pommel pulls in towards the rear talon hole, where the pic model seems to flare outward. The micarta also seems to have a "beavertail" flare at the rear.

Something to be on the lookout for.

Heck, this coulda been one of the first ones made.

Got one!!! :)

Thanks Hogs!!!! . . . . We have an exact duplicate. . . . A-2. . . . Smooth bolts. . . . . inward placed bolts. I had forgotten that we had moved the bolts out towards the end of the handle slabs after the first few batches. Glad you guys caught that particular feature!!!!

I'll post a pic of the one we have located later today. . . .

Thanks,

Jerry

Hey voracious, that is a picture of the MS you traded me after I finished it! Makes a nice EDC.

I miss the hell out of that knife, but I'm glad someone else is using it as an EDC as I did with it!
