Blade only ground on one side? Perhaps it was set aside as a second and never finished? Perhaps the factory was closing and the worker didn't have time to finish it?

Is there a serial number? I think they're supposed to have serial numbers, so if your's doesn't that indicates that it was never intended to be sold. But of course when the factory closed, everything was set loose on eBay - some good some bad - Seconds, prototypes, unfinished products, vintage knives, etc.

In a wierd way that makes that knife a rather interesting piece to me. Just like any other factory error or mistake. joel

The most authoritative word on that knife with regard to finish work or lack thereof and serial numbers etc. will come from Del.(Delander). He knows moare about Schrade/D'Holder and D'Holder than anyoune short of D'Alton Holder himself. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

It used to be very common to buy knives without a finished edge. If you just want it for display the edge bevel interrupts the mirror finish.

Yes you are all correct the knife has no edge on it. It would be impossible to sharpen by hand with this much of edge missing. I could have used a large angle grinder to put a sharp edge on it or maybe just ground away the whole blade just for fun. I ended up sending it back to the seller took around 2 months before I got money back plus loss of post both ways via international.

There is also something else wrong with it, Bob is on the right track!!!! Sure Del does know but I thought someone else may be able to come up with the right answer first??? Del???

uh, there's some guy's reflection in the bolster?

Pretty sure that's not supposed to be there...

Very Funny Bob!!! Thats Me, Mate!!!
Can you also see the grinder??? I was pretty unhappy that day!!! ;)

Looks to me like the top edge of the knife was poorly finished, towards the far end of the blade, rough looking.

Yes according to Del they should have a serial number? Del can you re-confirm???

Yes, this is one from the "Millennium Series" circa 2000- 2001 - Each knife from the series was numbered.

Since this knife was not finished and bore no number, one can deduct that it did not pass Quality Control and thus, was sent to the "rejects" room. This room contained the rejects and the knives that Schrade customers had sent for repair/exchange which were replaced with new knives.

Why Schrade did not "scrap" these is an unknown - maybe it was for practice knives for the apprentices?

Yes, they are simply gorgeous, any serious Schrade collector should think about adding one to there collection they are a nice addition. They are a custom Schrade think how scarce they will be!!! If it does not have a serial number be extremely wary. Some sellers will say that because it doesnt have a serial number its a prototype and worth alot more money its more likely a non genuine article and worth next to nothing. Buyer beware!!!!
Thanks Again Del !!!

No, Im not because I dont know enough about it, from what I have been told some of these were put together not by De-Holder but SMKW from left over blanks. I would never buy one without a serial number.
If you get one without a serial number (and there are quite a few) you are much more likely to get a dud.

Here's another one???
Where

Is that a compliment or an insult???

Sorry, it was a question about this knife... 160089809417 .. I haven't bid on this one. I'm certainly not trying to insult anyone. I think the D'Holders are really beautiful and I have two without serail numbers..... That's why I'm asking. Thanks! PL

No problem Mate, I misunderstood.
Have a Good One

Probably best to email Del. Looks geniune and a rare one but what he is saying about average price of $200 per square inch of blade is not correct (=$800 total). Average ebay price for De-holder over last 12 month period is between $175 to $220 for whole knife.

This looks like a genuine D'Holder custom knife, not a factory-made collaboration. So, if legit, it would be worth more than the Schrade-D'Holder releases. But worth $800 as the seller estimates? I don't know about collector value of various D'Holder models, but AG Russell can order you a brand new handmade D'Holder knives for $1075 through The Cutting Edge with a 3-4 month wait. There are also two D'Holders in the "Knives Ready for Immediate Delivery" section, something like $900 and $1200. And a third sold recently for $385.

There's also a current Canal Street - D'Holder collaboration. Retail price, under $200.

Regarding that auction though... I get a little suspicious when the bidders list is hidden. I can think of no legitimate reason why a seller would do that, but several reasons why a less-than-honest seller might.
