Can you recommend a pen, light, knife combo?

The Victorinox Signature Lite SAK combines all three into a single gadget and adds scissors and screwdriver/nail file and it is even more pocketable than just a Fisher bullet pen. Not one-handed and may be smaller than what you are looking for (it is based on the Classic SAK). Also, I the flashlight is red and has no constant-on feature.

Just as long as you know you won't be getting the same "performance" with the all in one that you would with dedicated tools, I don't see anything wrong with such an item.
Victorinox has a couple "swisscards" or some such that have a little LED, knife blade, file, magnifying glass, tweezers and ballpoint. I thought they were quite gimmicky until I actually played with one; I think you'd be well served with that combo.

I would be careful flashing a knife that has a pen built in it. Many people are very sheepish about knives. You are better off buying nice quality ones individually.

Thanks for those posts, esp. the above two from 'Lurker' and 'Bobofish' that actually answered the question. It looks as Victorinox is about the only option for now.

I still say that there would be a market for something that looks at least vaguely like a pen, but with built in blade and LED light. A lot of us have all the knives we need, but could be tempted to buy something new and useful like that.

...that actually answered the question.
Sometimes it seems like people are skipping the details in the original post and the follow up posts and just responding to the thread's title.

I think the reason you rarely find these 3 things combined is that each one is a complex device that is difficult to make well and they are different enough from each other that a company that makes any one is unlikely to be able to make the others. It's kind of like finding a single company that can build your house, furnish it and also manufacture the car in the garage. Not going to happen.

Good luck, I hope you find one you are happy with.

Not to monopolize the thread, but Victorinox also makes some standard sized models that have all 3 tools including white LED lights. They are the Huntsman Lite and the Voyager Lite models.

Lurker, the 'swiss army pen' at your gadget site was almost exactly what I was looking for. No locking/one hand blade, but I will probably get one if only to show custom knife makers at shows to see if they could make something similar, but maybe a little stouter. Pen cart & light could be off-the-shelf stuff, of course--probably Fisher pen and Photon light innards.

Now I am starting to get a little exited about the idea, and trying to think of different possible configs. Thanks very much for the link.

As to why this might be: people here obsess about quality EDC. People who do so are few and far between, and spread out across vast distances, so, to recoup costs, a manufacturer needs to get a LOT of people who like these things to purchase. I know that at least California PROHIBITS writing pens that "disguise" a knife in their design. I know, doesn't explain it all. But if you listen to arguments of anti-gunners that the microstamping of California will make it cost ineffective not to do so EVERYWHERE, even if this is untrue, might help explain some of the obstacles anyway.

This combo works for me

I find a good fountain pen to be 100% reliable, and it will write in some conditions when a regular ballpoint would have problems.

what about all on one keychain. There are mini-sharpies with rings built in, that and a photon could be attached to any small folder with a lanyard hole, one-hand opener and lock. Could probably still fit in the fifth pocket in a pair of jeans.

Victorinox Spartan Lite, change the scale with 'plus' scale, you'll get pen (bought separately) and even pin (needle pin, bought also separately)

Both the above would work, probably with better function and less $$$ than my idea. However, something like the 'Swiss pen' would be more convenient to carry for me. Plus now there is the NIH factor to consider lol.

Lambertiana--nice edcs there. Is it really true that a fountain pen is more reliable? I would have guessed the opposite. What about when compared to the Fisher space pens w/ pressurized cartridges? I know little about pens.

I'm glad it helped. Maybe you will be the next multitool millionaire? "Find a need and fill it" is what they say.

I like fountain pens, .... or if you like cartridges, a lamy safari. that'll set you back about 20-30, depending on options, and the cartridges are cheap. ...
For $5 you can get a convertor for Lamy Safaris to fill with bottled ink.

If you decide to go custom, or the separate route, check out the "Inka" pen. It seems to get better reviews than the Space pen, which seems to blob. I have one on order, so I can't comment yet, but they are small, cool (carbon fiber!), and come with a (removable) keyring.

I have the Vic all-in-one everyone is mentioning and it is nicely made and a good bargain for what you get.

Thanks for pen info, MVF and Lam. It occurs to me that I know next to nothing about pens and lights and need to find out some more if I find someone to make my pen/knife/light.

I use a space pen, and you're right, they do blob, at least sometimes. In fact I once mentioned it to the guy at the local knife shop where I have bought several space pens. I assumed it was a quality control problem.

A fine-point Sharpie is also good for EDC. Its tip is thin enough for "normal" writing, but being a Sharpie it can also do the permanent marker thing like writing on slick surfaces (i.e., placing your name on a plastic cup).

As for the light, you might consider something from Fenix (fenix-store.com) in whatever flavor suits you. I like the AA versions and use rechargeable batteries, and the L0D CE Q5 (AAA) is tiny but makes a ton of light.

Check out my list of lights: link.
