Can you recommend any folder that outcuts or cuts same as Opinels,Carbon or Inox?

Nope the Opinel is so thin it doesn't have much competition outside of a razor or thin kitchen knife.

Okapi knives, "Black Cat " lock back knives in Carbon or stainless. Douk Douks as well, and they have different options available as well as having stainless and carbon steel versions.

All pretty inexpensive but well built and fun knives that do cut really well. Black Cat Mercators and Douk Douks in carbon steel sharpen as easy as any knife I've ever found. The Cats are not really any different from the ones we used in the 60's.

The nilakka was thin behind the edge having a scandi grind without a secondary bevel... but it wasn't that thin at the spine if memory serves. The thinnest spyderco to my knowledge was the catcherman which was essentially a folding fillet knife.

Absolutely, I only meant at the edge. The Nilakka is a hefty 4.5mm at the spine. The Chaparral is 2mm.

I don't know about Nilakka or Chaparell, theyre thin or zero ground knives, but wish somebody would produce Opinel like blade ,with different handle!.Ps Yes, My Victorinox Alpineer cuts same or close to Opinel, But still I had to do full regrind on it on my belt sander!I am talking about out of factory blades!

Get a victorinox Gardner or a case sodbuster I have both and they cut very well,I don't yet own an opinel but I plan on it. The only issue I have is the very round fat nature of the handle ,which to me seems like it would limit them.to a sheath, or being modded with a pocket clip.

FFG ZDP or HAP 40 Delica would be my choice.

He speaks the truth,, factory edge still untouched.

Unless you're willing to do some (or even full) regrind, there aren't many that will come close. The Vic Gardener is pretty good competitor, but they come with a chisel grind which you may or may not like. Filmam (aka MAM) knives from Portugal are pretty similar in many ways to Opinels, including blade grind. Case will have a few that might come close, though sometimes their edge bevels are thicker than they need to be.

second that recommendation. I would have to say my ZDP Delica outperforms any of my Opinels.

but when it comes to super thin blades that slice like crazy - the Chaparral is no slouch either.

If you want blades that cut with as little pressure as the Opinel, there are not many out here. I have many of the knives mentioned in this thread and most have much thicker edge bevels and spines so they are not as efficient at cutting. They may hold a sharp edge longer, but only geometry controls how easily the blade goes through material (along with edge sharpness) and Opinel has few peers in the geometry department. A fairly dull opinel still cuts better than a razor sharp knife with a thick edge bevel.

Some of my more recent GEC 73s come close, and of all my modern folders my ZDP Caly 3 and S30V mini Ritter are also close.

Victorinox SAKs.

THIS!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I finally became a bit tired of the Opinel and it's Achilles heel of moisture/swelling, and just carry a SAK now. With the SAK's thin blade and flat grind, it slices almost as well as an Opinel, yet has none of the issues but lots more utility. For the price of a number 8 Opinel, I can get a Victorinox recruit, and that is much more useful day to day pocket knife than an Opinel.

For the price of two Opinel number 8's, you can buy a Case sodbuster junior in CV steel that will cut near as well as an Opinel, that it will be hard to tell the difference, yet the Case sodbuster will be three times the knife if not more.

I just moved this past november to Texas, and we had a ton of cardboard boxes to break down after unpacking. A Beat up Victorinox recruit did all the boxes and lots of shrink wrap, twine, and packing tape. It was still cutting pretty decent at the end of the couple days of unpacking.

I don't bother with Opinels any more.

Plastic svord peasant from baryonyx. It holds it's own against an opi plus the handle is a lot more comfy ime. After that I'd go victorinox. See a pattern? ;)

Jackknife, I use Victorinox Alpineer a lot, its larger locking blade that I reground little.Amazing cutter, and holds edge well ,easy to sharpen! The handle is wery nice too.Only thing that really bothers me with Opinels is Handle swelling, making it really hard to open-close.Otherwise, blade geometry is superb, and their new INOX 12c27 is excellent!Wish there was more folders with same blade geometry.Ps.Jackknife, I have never handled or used Case Sodbuster, but my local dealer has it in stock. Is it similar to opinel?

What the OP is trying to say is that, while an opi may not fare as well cutting through thick rope all day as other knives, it slices like a sword in a master's hand. I too can't find a better slicer, although my Queen No. 11 is pretty good.

I'd be on a well known auction sight looking for a discontinued Cold Steel Twistmaster..... its a plastic handled Opi with a lazer for a blade.... I have 2 and love em.
