Can you remove the G-10 from a Kershaw Groove?

I was planning on buying a Groove soon, and I'd love to know if it was possible to use the knife without the G-10 scales. Is the steel underneath skeletonized to the point that you cant do this? Are the screws holding the G-10 on also holding the knife together?

I really like the groove, but it would be nice to slim it down a bit.

It's usable without the scales, but you give up a lot of grip by taking them off (and it doesn't look as spiffy). But it'll work if you want to remove them :D

It seems like i would have more or at least an equal amount of grip as most of the Ken Onion AO line of Hershaw knives.

I guess if I did this, I would have to bend the pocket clip down to contact the frame.

Ya the knife works just fine without them. If G10 isn't your thing you could get Philip to make you some beautiful wood scales.

I used my groove without the scales for about a year. After the year of use, I went back to using it with the scales. I also waved my groove. I like it better with the scales after all.

Yes if you took the scales off, you will want to use pliers to slowly bend it down (and if you go too far, a hammer to flatten it back out)

The G10 that comes with the Groove is not thick , you will not notice any slimness in taking them off , IMO.

I added a full G10 slab to the non locking side of my Groove , I find it fits my hand perfectly.
