Can you sell yours?

If i'm not using it I probably won't sell it but i will trade it. I really enjoy trading more than selling when it comes to knives. I figure if i'm not using it i'm not enjoying it so out it goes.

Are you kidding? :D Look at my itrader count, and I have not kept up to date for the past 2 months.

The most fun I have with this hobby is the trading/selling part. Trading ='s new knives in the mail, selling ='s a loaded paypal ready for buying another knife :D Its a ton of fun shopping for knives when you have money, I think I COULD have that......but I will wait. Why, because if I spend it, I can't keep shopping with the same mind set. This way a knife MUST really really grab me before I buy it.

ALL my knives could be sold without regret, I would NEED a EDC..... But I would be fine. YMMV

I've only sold two knives, a Spyderco Civilian and a Camillus CUDA-MAXX. I sold these two knives because I never used them. I then turned around and used the profits to buy my very first gun, a Ruger 22/45. So I guess you could say that the situation turned out well.

I still regret selling those knives though. I don't know what it is, but I just don't like selling a knife, any knife. I don't mind giving knives away, and in fact I've done so several times. But something inside me just hates the idea of selling knives and I don't think I'll ever do it again.

Can you sell yours?

No, never.

But I do have some duplicates stashed away for potential trade offerings.

Why call him a criminal? There is nothing illegal about drilling a hole in a penny.
Not to go too off topic here, but there is a law against defacing US currency. Right now the zinc content is worth more as scrap than the face value.
Just my .02cents worth, still intact.

BTW: Only sold about 10 knives in 42 years of collecting, I guess you could call me a Knifeaholic.

I bought a Buck 110 way back when they first came out that I carried most of my adult life. It as very clean and in great condition and so was the belt sheath. I used to clean and polish the sheath about once every year. I gave it to my third son for his birthday last year and his wife told me that he shed some tears when he opened the box. He lives several states away from here and I couldn't be there (heart attack), but was touched when she told me how much it meant to him.

Buy, Buy, Buy. Never Sell. Do Like To Know What They Are Worth Though, Just For Giggles, And To Torture The Wife. Ha Ha.

i never sell any one of them.
Instead, i give them away to friends that appreciate them.:)

I get a few knives that aren't what I thought they'd be and yes I sell them, even if I lose money. Only Spyderco's and some Benchmade's to me seem to be worth keeping long term. ( as far as appreciating in value) I'm glad I have the Discontinued Spydies and the Benchmade's I've managed to hang onto in mint condition. The rest I try to trade for more Spyderco's. ( I even buy sprint run Spyderco's in Quantity to try to swap later for other discontinued Spyderco's)

I used to buy sell and trade, even some more collectible knives. This was mainly due to a very limited knife budget. I finally got to a point that I was only receiving knives I really liked. I started regretting the knives I had to sell or trade. Eventually I reached a point where my income had increased enough to allow me to keep my knives. Of course the volume of new knives slowed down drastically, but I've eliminated the regret of loss.

I now have a savings account that goes directly towards knives, and that's been enough to keep me happy. I'm just glad I don't have to get rid of anything I currently own. I just wish there was a way to go back and re-buy the knives I miss.

i buy so few that at this rate i'll still be able to use my old breadbox to hold them all until i'm scattered to the wind:D Maybe if i had alot or made more impulse buys i would consider it. Actually ive given my 11 year old son 4 in the last year so perhaps thats how i'll stay lean... a few times a year i'll just gift some out, those would be good days to be around me:thumbup:

I buy a lot of knives at public auctions and estate sales,if I kept them all,I wouldn't know what to do with them.As it is I have one 60 knife roll of keepers, along with about 15 in the safe and 10 or so more in a drawer,I have another 60 knife roll that is almost full of knives for sale or trade, that's money for more knives.

Can you easily sell a knife if it doesn't suit you or isn't part of your collecting strategy or whatever? Or are you like me, just can't sell them?
Not me, but then, my passion isn't knives, but guns. I love a good knife, but knives are easily replaced. My dad has a Ka-Bar Marine knife he went through the War with and, of course, you can't sell something like that. But unless it's got some sentimental value, I can generally let it go. I've regretted just about every gun sale I've made, though.

Over here, an object like that would have a fair chance of ending up in the Australian National War Memorial.

Definitely a keeper if ever I saw one!

I am a lobster trap for knives. I do buy - sometimes just select - a knife for my older son, as he appreciates them. He and his wife won't have children, while my younger son has my three (9,7, & 3 yr) grandmonsters. Sadly, the younger son couldn't care less about knives and revolvers - and his wife has zero sentimental value. Case in point - some years back, she was driving his car and found a huge contractor bag of stuffed animals in his trunk - they were his, his older brother's, and even his Mom's childhood keepsakes. He was supposed to take them to his mother's house - she dumped them in a Salvation Army collection box! Included was a huge panda I bought in our ship's store had to get a white had for it to salute the OOD and Flag and request permission to go ashore! Yeah, it'd be tossing keepsakes away to give them to him for my grandsons. My Dad's old WWII S. Pacific companion KaBar, nothing like the earlier artifact, will go to my older son - he can decide what to do with it (THEM)!

PS How do you treat your knife, etc collections in your will??

I have sold one Busse knife in all my years of Busse accumulation, and on that one a Hog contacted me out of the blue with a very good offer and caught me in a weak moment. I have also traded two duplicates in my collection for other Busses I wanted more.

I have a short list of Busses that I have pondered selling from time to time, but I can't quite pull the trigger. My bottom line is that I have the knives, take satisfaction from having them, and don't have a pressing need for the money.

I can & do sell mine all the time.My problem is that,I get bored with things much too fast.
I recently sold one of my favorites. The ZT0200PE.Although I loved that knife,it was just too big & heavy to get much carrying time.I felt this was a waste of a beautiful knife.
On the other hand,I have a BM14205 on the way;)

My experience selling to friends or co-workers means that you are in essence giving them away. As a result, I keep them. I'd almost rather throw them in the trash than give them away as the receiver does not appreciate what they are getting. If you work for something, you value it.
