Can you strop on yourself?

Edge leading or edge trailing strokes?

I strop on my arm or the palm of my hand all the time. I'll do it with simple carbon steels right after sharpening with burr removal being the only goal. As Dave said, you can't expect much metal removal. If you're not pretty careful you might get skin removal. There's the point to consider, etc.

Edge leading or edge trailing strokes?

Please tell me you're kidding.

Stropping is by definition edge trailing. If you try and strop a sharp blade in an edge leading direction on your skin, have the bandaids at the ready.

C'mon now. Wasn't it even better deadpan?

You could hurt yourself even edge trailing if you are not careful.

This post brings to mind a Chris Rock special on HBO I saw once. He had a line where he said-- "You can drive a car with your feet, it doesn't mean it's to be done!!"

I heard that old time carpenters used to strop their chisels on the heel of their palm. The guys who did this were supposed to have callouses on this area.

"Ah, but the question remains, can you drive a car with your feet? "

Better than my wife can drive a car with her hands :)
