hey guys i was wondering if anyone has a canada goose parka. either the expedition or snow mantra. anyone have any feedback on this company. i know there the best for making parkas but i was wondering what yall thought if there comfortable or not and could you wear it for a long time. im heading to canada and alaska for a while and im looking into one of these.

that expedition model sure does look tough.

first time hearing about this company, i'd like to learn a bit too.

I don't know anything about their products so I can't help you in that respect. If you do buy a down parka make sure the filling is 100% down, not a down/feather mix. I looked at their site and I see that some have a mixed filling.

Personally if I was going to buy down clothing my choice would be Feathered Friends. They make excellent quality gear. I have a vest and a sleeping bag from them and am very happy with both.

Another point to look for is the type of down fill. 800 to 900 power down is the best way to go more loft for the weight plus more compressability. Personaly I yse a down vest over my midlayer and under my shell in really cold weather. But I run hot.

yea i see where yall are coming from but these coats have been used in the artic for over 20 years by national geographic and the national science foundation or whatever there called. When i went to alaska last year when i passed through canada these were the coats to get. everyone up north swears by them but i was wondering if someone from the states has worn one.

Buy it anyway... its like 20% cheaper for you boys down sound

our Monopoly money is worthless again! hahaha

I have owned a couple from when I lived up north, I took my second one, a bomber style with no hood and shorter home with me, probably way too warm for winters here, but I like it a lot.
I would get the longer hooded version though. With a good hat, scarf and pants you could literally go out in a blizzard, and I have.

yea ill be up there for a while and i wanna bring it home to missouri where it gets in the negatives around 4 in the morning when i go to work. i just hope its not to much overkill.

be warned, wearing the parka in temps warmer than - 20 celcuis or lower, you will sweat profusely and cook. These parkas are WARM.

HOWEVER, they are built bomber, have been tried tested and PROVEN by the CDN ARMY, Researchers, north / south pole scientists etc etc .

well worth the mega bucks, oh wait...our CDN $ is worth nothing, BUY NOW using USD and you will score a sweet deal!

yea that is what im thinking. im taking a sheriff post up in alaska and i dont want to have to worry about freezing to death. then again i dont want to bring it home and let it sit for a year or two before i leave again. so i dont know. maybe a lighter canada goose parka? what would you recommend?

100% Down or fur are by far the best choice. Down is also nice and light.
Alpaca sweaters and socks are incredibly warm almost so much so that you can't wear them unless it is cold out.

Bushman5 is right. If it's warmer than -20C you'll roast.I have the snow mantra & I love it for when it's really cold but for milder temps you'd be better off with something different.Sorry I don't have any experience with their other models to make a recommendation.Whatever you choose,be advised there are Chinese counterfeits of Canada Goose.

You could always sell it to a greenhorn when you leave, then get another one when you return. In missouri it certainly won't do you much good.

yea i figure in missouri ill roast by the time i gets to be 5 am. i guess im in a dilemma. i think i might buy the mantra and when i leave ill sell it. by the way how bulky is the snow mantra?

It's hard to describe. It's definitely big,as mine comes down nearly to my knees, but I don't feel restricted while wearing it.I find it very comfortable & it gives me a feeling of security when out in extreme cold.Even a blizzard doesn't seem bad when wearing this parka, for when you zip up the tunnel hood it's like looking out your living room window at nasty weather while being toasty warm.Of course you would also need head & leg protection as well as good boots & mitts. As far as selling it when you come back,if you are planning on going back again you might be better off just keeping it as you'll take a loss when you sell & buying another might cost you more in the future. Also, these parkas are only sold to authorized dealers.Buying elsewhere could end up being a Chinese counterfeit.I'm curious as to price.I paid $600cdn here in Saskatchewan a year ago but saw them in another store for almost $800cdn so it pays to shop around. Finally, this is a parka that will last the rest of your life if you take care of it but is most certainly not meant for milder climates.

Fallonknives (i just got that reference :) ) i had the expedition (a well used one form a northern friend. As CYC said, its liek being in your living room with a red hot stove going. Get used to taking the jacket off every time you get in and out of the work truck.

hhhhmmm well dam! so your saying if its warmer than around 0 F the parka is to warm? Missouri its around -12 to -14 until around 5 in the morning then it usually settles around 10 to 15F if i could only find a parka that had a zip out and was canada goose. because like you said it will last the rest of my life. i dont trust north face anymore i feel they have are out to just please people and quite making quality stuff. hhhmmm
