Well I was really pi$$ed off until I read TheBadGuy's post about UPS, but here goes, anyway...

I made a deal with another forumite for the sale of one of my knives. He mailed the payment when he said he would, and it took FOREVER to get here. But it did get here.

Then I sent out his knife. I had to go to the post office, explain where it was going, and what it is, and how much insurance I wanted. Then I had to tell her what was in the box, if it was a gift, blah blah, blah. Then she goes to her book, and looks up the rates, weighs the box, looks in the book again, cubes the box, looks in the book again, and goes to the till. She rings in the shipping, adds the insurance, adds the fee for the signature, and gives my the total. I pay her, watch her put in the US mail bag, and go.
This all happened about three weeks ago.

Friday night I go to work, and the steno has left me a box on my desk, so I get all excited. Did I forget about a knife I ordered???
NO. It's the knife I sent out weeks ago, with a sticker on it that says "RETURN TO SENDER - INSUFFICIENT POSTAGE"!!!

How the hell can it be insufficient postage??? THEY gave ME the price according to their rate book. Even if she made a mistake, which she obviously did, why would they send it back so much later?? For that matter, this type of mail has to be done at the counter, so they knew it was their mistake, not mine. So why would they send it back, and inconvenience the customer for their error. My shipping address and phone number are on the box. Why not contact me for payment??
Now I have to go re-send it, pay more $, and leave a good trader hanging for another two or three weeks waiting for this knife.

To top it off, this is the second time this sort of thing has happened to me. The last time was about two years ago, and partially my stupidity, but mostly Canada Post, and it ended up costing me a knife.

And since I didn't like how things went then, I have made every possible effort to make sure my deals go through as smoothly as possible for the other person. I double check and triple check everything.

In addition to this faux pas, why does it have to take so freaking long to get stuff to and from the States?? I got a knife from Israel in 9 days, California takes 28 days. Yes I live in a remote settlement, but mail goes out in a plane, not a dog sled!

I guess I'm trying to say I am not a satisfied customer.
Thanks for listening.

Screw the lady, do the work you self.

Check www.canadapost.ca for the shipping rates then put the stamps on your self, save your self the time and effort if you believe this is going to happen again.

I hear ya' Jim.
Had Canada Post send a knife of mine that was a to be traded but had to be refinished first to hamilton ont, not harrow ont it was lost for a month. It made it back to me, sent by who ever it had gotten delivered to. I guess Harrow Hamilton they both start with H eh.
They only method of shipping I'll use to the USA is expedited. Xpress claims max of 5 days delivery but that only applies if you mail it direct from Toronto or Montreal like places otherwise you are paying double for same service.Still I agree I always state to persons I'm tradeing with 10-14 days, and cross my fingers. seems ok thus far.
Take Care and be safe

I have been using Xpress Post, 3-5 Business days... or XpressPost Air(usually 2-3 business days)...

I package them up in boxes small enough to not needing cubed, but large enough not to crush contents... and put about a mile of tape on them. Usually works pretty good.

USPS Priority (or Global/International) take about a week to get here, and the last time I sent ground, it took 2 weeks to get to Tennessee.

Purilator will ship worldwide, 2 business days is thier standard, air. I mail monday, they have it wednesday ot thursday. As my father is a courier who delivers to purilator(and get invited to thier xmas party), I pay according to weight, so a 3oz knife will cost me $8 for 2 day, air.

I don't care much for Canada Post either. Last month it took 2 weeks to receive a package that was sent to me from Edmonton, Alberta...About 550-600 miles away from me, (and we even share a common border). I have received packages sent to me from CLEAR-ACROSS the USA in 2 days (via USPS Priority Mail).

MY lat two pacakges I had sent up to Canada took about a month. Prior to that, it took all of two weeks. To top it off, they charged me duty on the two knives that took the longest. Never had to pay b4.

Hey Guys..

Jim...

Remote Settlement ???

That's an understatement!!!

I'd be Tearing someone a new one,Big Time..
They will refund your money...

I have Very few problems sending stuff.. Sure it takes some time once and awhile,,but generally I don't have any problems..

Hey HST..

Seems to me,, I still have that knife that was turned around...:)

Its coming soon Bud...Waiting to get that patch done for you...

BTW.. The patch has been plated.. It doesn't look too bad,,but I phucked it up a little.. I'll send it down to you,and you tell me what you think...
Can you get a couple more for me,, I can do better than the one I did...

I showed it to my dad,and he called me a "Dumbass" so I guess I'll have to have him help me with the next one....
I think you'll like the basic outcome though...

ttyle

Eric...

Eric,
Yes I know only too well how remote this place is;) . But, a move may be in the works sooner than later. Here's hoping!!

Anywho, I went to the post office today, and we could not find anything wrong with the postage amount. She even called her HQ in Yellowknife, and she was right after all. She thought we should try and send it again, but I told her to add a few extra bucks worth of stamps to be sure.
If it comes back again, I'm taking it to Kansas by foot.

Canada post... What a joke.

Hey Jim,

If you do make the trek down here, I'll buy ya a cool one, or two, to ease your aching feet.......;)

Good luck with your postal service, especially this time of the year!

Just did 2 more mailings....

Letter/payment to Java(in texas)...(4-9 business days, usually takes 4-5)
XpressPost to "Normark", should be there by early(mon or tues) next week...
just used X P for the package due to size/weight... Purilator would have charged me 2x the price, as they would have cubed the sucker.

From Canad Post web site:
Expedited Parcel - U.S.A. has a delivery expectation of 6 to 9 business days.
My knife I've traded left 17 days ago the tracking status shows it in Toronto:mad: It's going to San Francisco CA.
I received mine from Miguet from Japan in about 2 weeks.

Interesting. I Air Mailed a money order to Tokyo for a balisong. Got notified three days later that the m.o. had arrived there. Four days after the notification, I received my knife.
Couldn't get one that fast in the States. Sixty dollars including the shipping cost.

I have no faith in mail US to Canada. I statarted a trade with Corwin?Nelson in October. We both mailed packages on 10/31/02. His knives arrived to me about ten days latter. The surefire I mailed Nelson never arrived. On 12/16/02 I mailed him a second Surefire to make good on the trade. It has been seven days now and it has not arrived. Post Office told me 4 to 5 days delivery time. The worst thing is they ofer no good way to mail these items where they are secure and trackable that does not increase the cost of shipping and duties to where they trade is uneconomical. UPS whacks the guy up north for $30 bucks brokerage and Customs hits them for duties. It is a catch 22 you either go regular mail and take your chances or spend a fortune. The first light was used and the second a G2 so it was hard to justify the costs associated with UPS or even Global Priority. I was going to send it return receipt but they don't offer that for international parcels under 4lbs??? If this second light doesn't make it I'm not sure what I'll do to make it right with Nelson but we will figure it out. He is a stand up guy who has been very patient with this situation. Canadian Customs and Post however are at the bottom of my list.

Those puckers at Canada Post have lost my tracking on US packages using xpresspost. The package arrived, but the tracking never updated. I'm pretty sure it would happen again cause I send my Renegade down to have it sharpen... something funny happened to the edge and I don't have the patience to fix it myself, and they're going to get an earful when that happens.
They suck but at least they don't cost an arm and a leg. I have Fedex stuff before and that cost a lot, but it sure got there on time like they said they would. Also they're the cheapest guys to deal with customs.

Hell, I'm still waiting for the traking to work for my latest...

sent on friday 20th dec 02, it still says to wait 1 business day and try again...
