Please follow link above for detail information on UPS customs self clearing. I couldn't copy and paste all the info and pics to this thread. For ally Canadian folks who constantly get ripped off by huge UPS brokerage fees this is what you can do to save on those fees and headaches. I will be trying this in my next import for sure! Let me know how it works for you guys apparently is very successful

They are evil. It's just that simple.

I remember back in the early 2000's ordering a manual boost controller from
Summit racing that was $75.00USD and $135.00CDN....

It shipped UPS and they charged me another $75.00 for customs clearance, and 'fee's'
That made me feel really stupid....I waited 3 weeks and paid more. I was ecstatic....

It's now USPS or I pass.

As for self-clearance, it's an option, but what a PITA.....

Sorry, thanks for sharing the info Pellel2, much appreciated. Didn't mean to rant all over your thread!

Hey no problem guys I know it sounds complicated but it is actually quite easy if you live in a metropolitan area. Usually these couriers are lazy enough to have their depots bear major airports or customs buildings surprisingly enough!

I got burned by UPS long ago in the 90's and since then go with USPS which seamlessly transitions into Canada Post once the item clears customs. Its safe and the tracking information follows through to the point of pickup.

I hate UPS with a passion, they are guilty of fraud and extortion as far I am concerned and I would rather have a drunken hobo ship my parcels, but for those of you that chose to use their services I am sure this option will save you some cash.

Agree with all of the above....unfortunetly some people who are outside of North America need to use bonded carriers such as UPS to ship to Canada...at least this helps a lot in those situations

Could be wrong but I think the huge fees is only for Ground shipment by UPS from USA to Canada. If its by air I think its a bit different, it has something to do with the shipment being dropped of at the destination rather than having to pass through the border by vehicle. Theres a bond fee and some other low fees that are charged but I think brokerage only is for items passing through the border again its only a guess so do check first.

I was shipped something by UPS that was 200 dollars and charged nothing at the door. Cant remember if it was by air or ground or if the seller had a customs broker or has a business account with UPS and ships so many items that they decide to take off the brokerage.
