Canadian Knifemaker Guild Show Review...70+ pics!!!

Thank you for sharing. Great pictures ! I wish I had been there, but Blade Show is coming. Gotta start saving now.

I wish someone would do this at every single show. I was as close to being there as possible. I for one, really appricate the effort you put forth to bring us these great threads THANKS!!!!

Looking back over the pics, I see some very unusual stuff.

Brian Lyttle - Graceful engraving
Matt stocker - Where did he come up with the material for that crazyhandle!!! Beautiful job. Not in love with the blade, but he'll have a different shape soon, I'm sure.
Randy Doucett - Nicely shaped and cut fighters
Peter Wile - That flowered and windowpane handle is classic!

Thanks again!

Some of the work was absolutely amazing. I wasn't there long enough to do it all justice and all the usual culprits had great stuff [although where was Il former Prezisente Wally Hayes?] Il current Prezidente, Peter Wile's work is incredible, and I lusted after the Guild knife, which was a real beauty. Who won that one? That beauiful engraved damascus folder is the knife he made for me which I gave him back to be photo'd by Point Seven. It's amazing. All his work is amazing. Wolfgang Loerchner's stuff on display was, as usual, incredible. One day I'm going to rob a bank and buy one. The last one I have time to comment on was Brian Lyttle. Wow. Some of his damascus was so outstanding, tight, defined, shimmering even, I had to get a dagger. He found a nice narwal piece for the handle [a reminder for me of Greenland] at the show too. they're pictured above side by side on the left of the table. Brian lost an incredible amount of weight. He gave it all to me, I think :) Too many great things, too little time, too little money :( Great report and pictures by RL, though.
We have some of the best makers in the world, no question. And some of the best people, for sure :)

Great report, just one problem, I must have blundered into your shot at least twice. How come I didn't make the final cut? :D

Thanks everyone! I'm glad you enjoy it...certainly makes it worth the effort. Again, I can't take ALLLLL the credit :) Murray and cockroachfarm did a great job taking pics (and my pics turned out better than usual :) )...I have to say thanks to Phyllis White too for being a gracious hostess.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the makers...it's nice to see that they care about us collectors and its great that so many turn out for our Knife Knut dinners/events.

Yobbos, what do you look like? I have tons of other pics on file...perhaps we did get you after all...next time, feel free to approach one of us and we'll try to put you in.

Bandisthe, I looked for you afterward but I didn't see you...BTW, that Bladerigger is a BEAUTY!!!

Robert:

Yet another outstanding summary of the days events and bladeware. I was amazed at all the beautiful knives and the tremendous effort each maker put into his work.

The nice things about shows of this nature, is that although there are lots of attendees, you still have the opportunity to talk to the makers on a personal basis and garner a lot of knifemaking and collecting information.

I had a few personal show favorites but I'll keep them to myself (for now). I can't wait until October! ;)

Robert: In-coming mail.

It looks like my favorite knife of the show managed to elude the cameras - a lovely little forged integral by Christoph Deringer, nearly identical to this one previously photographed by our very own Coop:

Very, very clean work.

Cheers,

Roger

Christoph is very underrated. He is a Master Smith and I love his work. I had a short talk with him and he's working on some interesting stuff. I just wish he'd update his CKG page every year or so :)
Did anyone see George Tichbourne's liquid metal knife? Amazing finish and very nice work, as usual. If this material stands up [titanium and other goodies that won't rust], maybe we'll have a better alternative to talonite/stellite/straight titanium for corrosion resistant hard use knives?

actually Roger, an image of 2 of Christoph's knives was forwarded to RLas well as a candid image so perhaps he can link them if he uploaded them to his pix hosting site.

Hi Roger and Murray,

Hmmm..I don't seem to have those on my pic hosting site...unfortunately, I'm away from home right now and I can't upload for a couple of days...perhaps Murray could email the pics to Roger and Roger could post them??

unable to locate the candid shot I thought I had. Here is the Christof Derringer knife photo though. We'll see how long it lasts as I used the "iupload" site for another shot at it.

Thanks Murray - glad you got a shot of the pair. I don't think I've ever seen and integral S-guard like that bottom knife before. Neat stuff.

Cheers,

Roger

Those two are some of the most beautiful knives I've come across. And these were the exact ones I took pics of last Fall. The grain mirrors in the two pics of the guardless hunter.

While Christoph was at the hammer-in, he forged a small blade nearly identical to the integral guarded knife here. All were spellbound at this design!

Coop

I'd love to see more pics of his stuff. I really like integrals generally speaking, and he definitely has "the touch" for them.

A great report, tremendous pictures and some truly world class knives!

I've got to make it "down south" for one of these shows.
