This is a shot in the dark;

I'm looking for a supplier of .250" 1095 plate in about 20"-40" plate size, in Canada. Preferably precision ground.

Any suggestions are appreciated:thumbup:

Maybe send an email to Rob at knifemaker.ca. They are very helpful. They don't have those sizes listed, but they may have it in stock, or know where to get it.

Now I have to know what you're up to!

You can always start with the local steel suppliers in the Yellow Pages

The problem is, they won't have it because it's special
Ordering in just one sheet for you, will cost hundreds in shipping
Then they double that again when they sell it to you.

Ask them if they have it, or can they get it
"price and availability"
end the call asking who else they know of you can try.

after several hours of that, you will probably end up with ordering from Aldo or Admiral.
Aldo is better about straightness.

The question to ask is sheared, or saw cut.
Saw cut is less prone to warp.

If you're trying to save on shipping.
Try getting material shipped directly from the supplier in the usa to your waterjetter in the usa, then just ship the parts to your maker in the usa.

the waterjetter on here with the german shepard dog in his avatar has a good reputation.

I'm assuming this is for the hatchets

If you change your material to 4140 your supplier choices open up.

In Ontario, 4140 is routine for them, yet 1095 is not.

I'm in the same boat. I have been emailing the saw blade and leaf spring manufacturers and will report back if anyone will sell sheets.

where are you at in canada Lorien? Ottawa has a pretty good warehouse that told me they could order pretty much anything... Mike Mossington might be able to help as well or he will know someone who can, and +1 for Rob at knifemaker.ca (canadian knifemakers supply) as well... he is helpful as anyone and is a pretty good bet especially if you're west. hope this helps.

I think Rob gets most of his steel from Aldo, already cut to width, but I could be wrong. As far as I know, Aldo's son is in the waterjetting business now, so it could be a one stop shop for a run of a single design.

thanks so much for your suggestions and advice.

I wanted a Canadian supplier, since I already have a waterjet service in my neck of the woods lined up that I've worked with before, and I want to ensure my pattern is rendered as closely as possible. Lots of nuance in some areas.

Since I'm working with an American maker, and I can't find anyone to buy this material from in Canada, I think we'll use Peter Bruno's services and supplies.

This is for Hatchet Jack V2.0, which I'm working on with Ryan. Now, with hamon!

Thanks again guys:thumbup:

If you want a-2 or 0-1 there is KBC and skookum tool. The prices are good too. 1095 is still a no go in Canada as far as I can tell...I asked Rob where he gets his and he said NJ steel Baron.
