Hi guy's, first post in the traditional area. I just made my first traditional folder purchase today and only now thought to look around on the forum to find info regarding the Canal Street 4" serpentine stockman I just bought.

I found nothing, no info regarding Canal Street Cutlery at all! Does no one like these knives?, I couldn't even find a photo of one(so far) in the 150 odd page photo thread(but ooh boy has that thread got me excited, it's opened a whole new can of worms).

Can anyone tell me about these knives, quality, what I should expect, some photo's would be excellent:D.

I just hope that I don't regret buying a knife just because I liked the looks of the bolsters:p

Cheers,

Jim

It's a good company. Was even under heavy consideration to make the 2010 Bladeforum knife.

Thanks cnas, some good feedback in there.

It appears a lot of people aren't too happy with CSC's back spring tension. The only experience I have with slip joints and spring tension is the Spyderco UKPK and a couple Vic's and have no issues with them, can anyone compare?

Rusty, this sure looks like a good place to spend money, just popped that into my favorites.

Actually, I rather like my Canal Street half moon trapper and have been eying the stockman as a Father's day gift. It's true the spring is not snappy, but it doesn't let the blade flop around and that's all I really need. I got the 14-4 CrMo model (Latrobe Steel's version of 154CM). The heat treat is quite good.

I had contacted Canal Street after I bought the trapper. Among other things, I asked if they had any plans to make a stockman with 14-4 CrMo blades (drool). Walter Gardiner told me that they were unable to procure 14-4 CrMo thick enough to make a stockman blade. 440C is close enough for me.

Let us know how she performs for you.
Congrats on the new knife!

Nothing really wrong with CSC. I've had 2 of them. The '07 BFC knife is a CSC Cannitler with D2 blades & mammoth handles (I have one...:D).

BTW, does yours have D2 blade or something else? You should be very happy & I'm sure you won't have "buyers' remorse", if that's what you're worried about. BTW, now that you're getting into slip-joints, I highly doubt it'll be your last.

Thanks knarfeng! She is due here in the middle of next week, I will make sure I post my thoughts on her.

The knife has 440c blades, not what I would normally look for in a blade but but I figure if I have 3 blades.....;)

I was tossing up between the stockman and the cannitler and I do love D2, so like you say I doubt the stockman will be my last.

I have the cannitler in D2 with Ram's horn. Somewhere, there's a thread with pics of it in it. I love that knife! It has been my edc for going on two months, and I can't say enough great things about it. And spring tension is spot on for mine!

Jimbo, you have a fine knife coming, made by a small company of people with plenty of cutlery making experience. 440C is still an excellent knife steel. many custom makers continue to use it. for me, it is a reason to buy the knife.
the 'complaints' are mostly from those who like bear-trap springs. CSC does not make their springs to be bear trappers. for the most part their springs are 'just right' to function properly and still be easy to open the blades.
please be sure to post back after you've had it for a couple of days.
