First off let me say that I don't have a digital camera so no photos. Sorry.

I have recently acquired my 1st CSC knife. I've been wanting one for a while but couldn't quite decide on which model, material, etc. This one came at the right time/right price so now it lives with me.

CSC Half Moon Trapper w/ White Mica Pearl Handles, Silver Nickel bolsters, and mirror polished 14-4CrMo. #1199397 Ser#0X.

I absolutely love this knife. At first I thought it might be a bit small/light for my hand but it is growing on me rapidly. And as a transplant to the Ellenville area I now have a CSC residing proudly with my Schrades.

My question is does anyone know how many of this model were in the production run? It is a 2010 run but I don't see it mentioned at either the CSC site or the local retailer, Drop Point Hunter. I'm assuming it is not currently in production. I know most runs are about 200-400 ea. Just wondering if anyone had a reference. I figured I would try the experts here first before I call CSC and bug them. Thanks for all your help.

I have a half moon trapper that I bought in the fall of 2008. I don't know how many were made. The fit and finish are at least as good as any of the GEC blades I have handled and the blade came with an excellent edge on it. 14-4CrMo is the name Latrobe Steel uses for their version of 154CM.

I need a better picture, but here is mine:

I have a few and a good number of them are from 2010 but I haven't seen that one. Is the one you have "White Buffalo Mica Pearl"? Please do update us if you hear back from CSC. I know they have had runs of only a handful of knives. Maybe they didn't make enough for a greater distribution or to offer for sale on a website?

The handles are milky white with some bubbles. It resembles mother of pearl. AFAIK, all the white buffalo has black and brown/orange added.

No problem, just checking on the White Buffalo...

There is also the 5th anniversary half moon trapper in pearl but I think it is #1197377 and has a 2nd shield. Looks like there were only 25 of these made.

Eyegor, I know which one you mean, kind of an off white irridescent color. That's definitely a short run, I'd guess either 25 or 50 as an SFO for someone. The white buffalo mica's are exclusive to AG Russell if my memory serves me correctly.

It's hard to say what the production totals are. Mine is rosewood, 2009, and one of 25 made for Sooner State Knives. You can probably assume that yours is one of 25-50.

I appreciate everyone chipping in here with information. I know that without pics I am making it even more difficult. One other descriptor I fogot to add. The pins are under the handle material and not visible.

When I first got my autumn sunset Half moon I was a tad disappointed because it had slight wobble and the bolsters were a bit scratched. I decided what the heck I'll just use the heck out of it... but then I decided to test the customer service and sent it to Jean. It came back tight and polished so now I don't want to use it! I'm having a hard time doing anything but sliding out of the black felt pouch, fondling it and sliding it back in. I need that first scratch..

Fire it off to me. I'll scratch it up for you and send it back in a few months:D

That's why I just fixed the horrible blade wobble on mine myself. I just left everything at 1500 grit and don't have to worry about scratching it.

I have not see a Half Moon in person. Looking at the pictures here and on-line it appears that the Half Moon has a slight recurve as that a slight distortion in the pictures? Does 14-4 CrMO hold an edge long?

Not really a recurve, more of an upward sweep at the butt end. 14-4CrMo holds an excellent edge, it Rockwells at around 60-62.

Here's beautiful little SFO I just picked up, I think there were only around six made, pink abalone:

umm... did you read my earlier post in this thread?
154CM is a relatively well known alloy among knife folks. It holds an edge better than 440C and less well than S30V. 14-4CrMo is the same alloy and has the same properties.

I did. I also found this thread. I guess I was looking for more confirmation as I can't find much information on the steel outside of the bladeforums and it has been around for a while. No offense meant, I am just trying to decide on a 3 3/4 - 3 7/8" trapper.
