My Llewellyn setter has become my constant canoing partner and I started him out with a Guardian Gear life vest. It has worked great but came apart at the seams too quickly. I bought it in June of this year and it blew out by August.

I am looking at the Ruff Wear Big Eddy right now. It's cost is nearly twice that of the GG vest that has fallen apart, about $75.

But I see several other brands out there like Paws Aboard, Outward Hound. I'm not worried about his swimming abilities, but he is very athletic, a constant motion machine and the possibility exists for him to get in trouble on the flowing streams we frequent, either while he is swimming or if we should upset the canoe. So far we have not, but it is a possibility. Any suggestions?

I have 2 sizes of outward hound saddlebags for my Black Lab.

Used them hard for 100's of km for 9 yrs until he turned 10.

Now I carry the old guys stuff, at 12 he can still swim and hike alright though.

Seemed like a good brand to me

take care
