Ok fellows heres my plan for canister damascus tell me if this seems reasonable to you.
I have access to a power hammer and I can get it hot enough.
ive got a 2x2 pipe and 52100 ball bearings and 1084 powdered steel.
what i wanted to do was get a 6" chunk of pipe and put some thick .25" 1095 down the middle so I wont have to worry about getting a perfect heat treat that way. so .25" thick 1095 in the middle and ball bearings and powdered steel in the sides.
Ive read a bunch of stuff regarding putting a pin hole in to vent so the canister doesent explode, and Ive also read horror stories from not having one.
Does my plan seem reasonable. Ill be giving my slab down the middle and the ball bearings a good clean prior to welding it up.
Also asuming all goes well with the inital welding when do you think it would be a good time to peel the "outer" skin off.
