Canister Damascus

I need a break from grinding blade .I need to try something different so I have several question :) I keep a lot of steel /52100 , 15n20 ,1.2519..../ shavings like this one on picture from working with file jig . First question is can I use them for canister damascus ? If I can , next question is can I use stainless steel shavings mixed with carbon steel one ?Next question............can I use small different pieces of carbon/stainless steel in canister ? If I can , next question is can I use stainless tube for canister ? Thanks in advance for any help :thumbsup:

Best to stay away from mixing the stainless and carbon. They are not compatible in the annealing, hardening or tempering steps. They also move at different rates and can be sites for cracking.

It can be done but it’s never the best thing to do. It is best to buy known powders and keep it as simple as possible.

Always soak at temperature longer than solid billets and reduce slower than you would with a solid billet.
