This is what a canister welded billet shouldn't look like.:eek:
Stacy, I'll send you you the ends and sides. HEHEHEHEHEHE!! Only kidding Bro.;) I should get around 2 pounds of Damascus out of it. God knows what the pattern will look like.

Hey IG, is that Heraldo Rivera in the discoloration on the top? :D

seriously, it will be interesting to see what you get for a pattern, and hey, if you don't like it you can always twist, cut, and reweld.

keep us updated!

You got that right.;) Draw it out, cut,add some 1095 and nickel then twist. HEHEHEHEHE!!!

I was at IG's when we did up the billet, and the round stainless worked fine... the handle breaking off the billet because it was too heavy, and the forge heat getting too hot is what didnt work so well =P The the wrestle to get it under the press with some tongs while it was starting to overheat in the forge etc is what got the nice .. err messy, edges =P The stainless case was a good thing though. Pealed right off.

Wa..Wa..Wally,

Wow, what the heck did you do.

I Think Bruce Bump is being kinda gentle with that description

BBBBBB Beaver that sucker got so hot, that you couldn't see it in the forge. I only had it in the forge for 40 minutes. I figured ( I no scary) that it was around 3 pounds I would need that length of time and that my forge wouldn't get that hot because it needs relining.

IG do you use a pyrometer?
Im sure there is something wonderfull inside unless it melted the contents. At 2500f the steel is on the verge of meltdown. The stainless case should be able to take way more heat than the steel. I have melted case iron in my first dragons breath forge. A pyrometer will allow you to throttle it back and maintain 2300f.

Cut er open, lets see it

BB, I have a thermo-coupling and a controller, so I can dial it right in. This is the 1st time I have burnt one, but this was the biggest one I have done.
You are right, I'll do it the next time.;):D
