Cannibalism and survival

even if you dont plan on cannibalism in extreme situations, if you talk about it a bit on boats/planes, your likely to get a whole raft(or chunk of floating debris or whatever) to yourself

Before I would ever consider that I would think about several things.

1.) Is it really that important that I have food at that time? Can't people go for three weeks without food?

2.) Would staying alive for a while longer really help my chances at rescue? For example if you are at the bottome a some pit in a cave or something and no one is going to find you anyway.

3.) Are you going to have to kill the people before you eat them or are they already dead?

After all of this, I would do it if I had no other choice. However I would be pretty damn thin before I started chewing on somebody. I have read a couple stories that involved cannabalism. One was Alive, and the other was some horror story about some people in a lifeboat. In Alive I can see more justification, in the lifeboat I woul have tried fishing first. This issue also has religious and psychological ramifications.

Sesoku,

Interesting points...I'd like to talk about one here: about being stuck in the bootom of some pit thinking nonobdy would find you...I think it goes to the will to survive issue...

I heard a story recently about these frogs running through the woods, and two of them accidentally hopped into a deep hole. They were hopping as hard as they could, but couldn't get out. The frogs up above started yelling to them, "Give it up -- you'll never get out! Give up you'll never get out!"

One of the frogs finally believed it, so he laid down and died.

They kept yelling to the other frog, "Give up -- you'll never get out!" Each time they yelled to him he jumped a little bit higher. Finally, he made it out of the hole, to the astonishment of the others. They said to him, "We never thought you'd get out, and we were telling you to give up! Why did you keep trying??"

The frog responded, "I'm hard of hearing, and I thought you were yelling encouragement -- and it inspired me to conjure up the willpower to get out of the hole!"

I believe that in a survival situation, one should never give up -- one should either survive, or die while still trying...

Peace,

Brian.
