I have the Case Amber bone Canoe and a Queen in D2 with Delrin, its not even close, the Case wins hands down.

I know things vary but here are my observations.

Case is slimmer and sits nice in a little cottom pouch in the pocket. The springs are fiendishly crisp. F&F was better than the Queen. The CV holds a great edge, granted probably not as long as the D2 Queen but a 2 minute job once every 2 months with an EdgePro with #1000 tapes gets it back ready for surgery.
:)
...my experience with a few Case Canoes has been just the opposite....lazy backsprings, amber bone that looked as if it was carved and colored by a five year old, fit and finished like a cheap Zippo lighter..and a "tacky" blade etch of an indian in a canoe. However my Queen cocobolo Canoe in D2 is a work of art....once I get it sharp it cuts for month with just a touch up. I suppose I just got a bad Case.......but I sure have never seen a Queen as funky as those Case. As you said however, "things vary".

Roger that on the Canoe etch, #2000 soon took care of that though.
I'm going to try a Case canoe again soon.....too many folks have said they swear by 'em. I believe I just ran into a few bad ones....every manufacturer can let a Monday and Friday knife slip by. I can't very well claim to have an extensive canoe collection without having a Case ! I would also like to add a Fight'n Rooster canoe to my collection....saw one in MOP on eBay not long ago......it was sweeet....but went for nearly $90.

I'm not ready to get rid of my Indian yet :D

Here's a pic of my Case CV Canoe, which I bought from Temper's knife-shop about a month ago.

I know what you guys mean when you express love for Case CV. I have a chestnut bone CV trapper that's my EDC, and I don't think anything will dethrone it.
I think that if anyone has gotten a lemon from Case, unfortunately it happens a little more frequently these days. But, when you get a good one, it's a god among men.

This time around, I'm going to try a Queen. I don't have any queens yet, nor do I have anything in D2. Ordered last night... can't wait for it to get here. :)

Peace.

That's gorgeous! Would that qualify as a stockman or a whittler?

Oh, and I think I've found what I need for my next fix. Instead of picking up a Queen canoe and sanding off the etch, here's one without it!

Yes!

You'd better check on the lack of an etch on that one, I think it is a picture that was done pre-production when the entire D2 line was announced a few years ago. I think they all come etched, and the tang stamp is different from the one in that picture, too.

I'm 86% sure I got mine from knifecenter...with the etch.
Could be a proto, could be photoshopped. I was surprised when I saw the etch though.

Also, that picture does not have the current production Queen "tangstamp", it has the older "Queen Cut. Co." stamp.

Current standard CSB productions have the large crown "Q".

waynorth asked me to post this picture of a canoe of his made by Queen. I imagine Charlie will be along to give us the details.

You got it Gramps! A SFO commissioned by Ken Daniels. He is reviving the old tang stamps of Queen cutlery, with limited production pieces, and he knows what a good knife needs! Carbon steel, nice handles, nice patterns.
We're not supposed to advertise on here so I don't know what to say about contacting him, but I guess you could email the Queen cutlery collectors.

Once again ignorance rears it's ugly head. What does SFO stand for?
SFO= Special Factory Order......just Queen's way of letting us know a knife will be made as a limited edition......in small numbers.....with limited availability.

Special Factory Order!
Retailers, and Idiots like me do it for the good of Knifedom! I think some guys even make money at it! Queen will make you the knife of your dreams if you order enough of them, and if they like the knife. If they like it enough they will even let you use their brands.

Convexed the edge on a mouse pad and all it has seen since is a strop, or sheet of cardboard.

Ebbtide,
I've thought about trying the mousepad method (especially since I have one at work, whereas all my other tools are chez moi). How long did it take you to convex the edge on a D2 blade, using a mousepad? Seems a daunting task...
Peace.

Questions for you guys. I have a Queen JBC canoe. I like it. Single spring. Good FF. Snap, particularly on the big blade, is lacking, but it works. Big, broad thick blades. Cool in one respect, but kind of a biatch to get sharpened with the D2 and all.

I have a Case mini trapper in CV. Gets wicked sharp fast and has thin blades great for slicing and general cutting. The CV trapper has replaced the Q canoe as my EDC.

After re-acquainting myself with the thin CV blades, it's tough to beat. Is the Case canoe a) single spring and thin and b) does it have the 0.125" monster blade the Queen does?

Thanks!

I bought a yellow handled CV canoe for my Dad a couple years back. It's a beautiful little knife. Single spring, nice action, great F&F, walks and talks. Nice sized main blade (not quite as broad as the Queen, but almost). As for thickness, I don't remember for certain, but if I remember correctly it's the same thickness as regular, full-size Case blades like a stockman or trapper (which I believe is a tad thinner than Queen's blades). I think the secondary blade is thinner, as on most canoes. I'd say go for it, especially if you love the Case CV as much as I do.

I just got my Queen bonestag canoe in the mail, and it's very nice. The only issue I have with it is one of the pivot pins not being quite flush with the bolster (just a tad recessed, not sticking out, so it doesn't bother me). The D2 is great so far, but I haven't cut many things with it yet, nor have I sharpened it, so I can't compare it to the CV quite yet. As for the feel of the pattern, especially with these pretty scales, it's become my EDC for now, bumping my CV trapper into second place (but don't tell her, or she might cry... ;) ).

All in all, I like the Queen quite a bit. I also love Case CV, and canoe patterns in general. My next buy (after a Schatt & Morgan sunfish... or scout... or perhaps a wildcat driller...)... ok, one of my next buys... will be a Case CV canoe.

Peace.
