can't decide - leek or blur

i can't decide what to buy next. the only kershaw i own is a storm II and i love it. i think i want another ken onion, usa made knife, this time with a/o. i can't decide between a rainbow leek or a blur. i'm not a big fan of linerlocks, but i've heard the blur is a great one. i'm leaning toward the leek because i've already got a big ole honkin' knife with the storm II, and the leek would be a little smaller for edc, but the blur feels great in the hand (and the OCC one is sweet looking). anybody have input to sway me one way or the other?

The standard stainless steel Leek is a frame-lock, it's thin, and small enough to make it a good "gentleman's knife."

That said, I've EDC'ing a Shallot lately.

Buy both! I love leeks, I have about 8 of them in different flavors. I recently got my first blur though (thanks again Thomas) and I love it as well. If you think you will carry and use a leek more because of the size then I would say that is your best option, the best knife is one that you will use.

I would try a Leek. I have the TIZDP189, OCC Leek and a Composite Leek. They carry so well and are great knives. To me the is very close to the perfect EDC...............slim, light and very sharp plus I like the Wharncliffe blade.

i forgot to ask before...what are the grinds on these? different websites give different answers.

It depends on which steel is used. Typically the leeks have a hollow grind for the standard versions, the premium steel versions usually have a flat grind. I am unsure about the blurs but someone will be able to answer that.

I have both,
You will end up getting both, they are that good. (and fun :D )
The leek is more of a slicer for more "pretty jobs" (and of course showing off to the girls  )

The blur is a good workhorse knife, shaving wood and the like.

I usually carry both on me, both get use.

I think the Rainbow Leek has a hollow grind and the blur, a flat grind but I dunno for sure.

You can't go wrong either way.

I say Leek! I bet you can't own just one!

The Blur grinds also vary, although not necessarily like the Leeks. I'm not sure what the criteria is, but I have 7 Blurs (6 different models) and these are the grinds...I'm too senile to figure out the rhyme-or-reason...:D

From top to bottom:

1670TBLKST, Tactical Blur, 440A, hollow grind
1670GRYST, Gray Blur, 440A, flat grind
1670S60V, S60V Blur, S60V, flat grind
1670S30V, S30V Blur, S30V, flat grind
1670BRNSG2, SG2 Blur, SG2, hollow grind
1670DKGRYST, Dark Gray Blur, S30V, hollow grind

We've got regular steel in both grinds, and premium steels in both grinds. If anyone sees any pattern here, feel free to add illumination...;)

We've also got a Gray Blur with a darker-gray handle than the Dark Gray Blur, which has a black-coated blade.

What does it all mean? I don't know, but...I like them all!

The hollow grinds do seem to be sharper out-of-the-box...

bennyG19: Both the Leek and the Blur are fine carries, which is why both are part of my EDC selection/rotation...some days I feel like carrying the smaller, more scapel-like package of a hollow-ground Leek, other days I'm just more comfortable with the extra beef of a Blur.

You need at least one of each!

Ray :)

I'd say start with a Leek. You're gonna end up buying a lot
more Kershaws after that, but it's a good start to the never
ending lineup after that. If the Blur appeals to you, you might
also want to check out the R.A.M. It's one helluva knife.
It hasn't left my pocket since I've gotten it.

Here's a link of someone trying to be a showoff with the RAM. ;)

There is also the new skyline coming out, nice blade shape, g-10 handles, great price. I cant wait to get a skyline and see it in person. go to knifecenter.com and search for skyline. It a flipper though, not a/o

is the steel in the blur the same as the steel in the leek? some websites i look at say 440A, some say sandvic. i guess i'm leaning towards the leek right now.

Ray, there is a new color for the Blur coming soon. I'll start a thread in the coming weeks.

Newer blurs and newer leeks should both be sandvic 13c26, I believe the changeover date was jun or jul of 2007.

Anything with july 07 and latter marked on the blade are 13C26. It's a crap shoot if
you order online. You can always call and ask.

...I love both of those darn knives and couldn't have one without the other. As my "mits" are so darn big, though, I carry both but tend to grab the Blur a bit more than the Leek. I'm amazed at how nice both are and am sorry it took so long to find it out...:thumbup:

:thumbup::thumbup: For the Shallot.

That said the blur is a nice knife, very popular.
