Can't Decide on a Kukri for my needs.

Take a deep breath and repeat after me:

All I want is -

EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Welcome to the cantina, Idunno. I recently ( yesterday) evaluated a lightweight 18" AK I got from Uncle. It was wonderfully nimble for a long blade. Point of balance was close to the handle and was great in the hand. Mine weighs 28 oz. but feels as light, due to weight distribution, as my 24 oz. Malla.

As far as the handle fit to your hand goes, HI Khuks are great. My smallest handle is on my Malla, yet my fingers don't touch my palm. My others are slightly larger but all feel as if some engineer did dissertation research on optimal grip shape and sent it to Birgorka's Kamis. Long story short-- the handles are optimally shaped to fit the type of Khuk that it's attached to.

No bad choices from HI. I beleive that it is diametrically impossible to have only one HI Khuk. Once you handle and test your first HI Khuk, You'll be lookin' for #2,#3,#4,.....#79

Have fun :D

Well,

I've spent countless hours debating what I should get. If I had a lot of money, the decision would have been easy. Get 2 of everything :D . But since that's not an option, I think I've finally decided. I think I'll go with the Plain YCS. I still very much like the 18" AK, but from what I gather, it may be a tad bit to heavy for my needs. The Plain YCS looks just about right for everything I would need it for. But I DO plan to get me one of them AK's as soon as the money comes along :D

Now, I just gotta stop eating for a few days and hide from my landlord to scrounge up some cash :D

Thanks to all for input,

-IDunno

btw,

How much would one of them Plain YCS's set me back ?
I keep seeing conflicting numbers.

Thanks

I think Uncle Bill said that it's $145 for the plain YCS with standard karda and chakma or $175 for the model with the Yvsa-designed 2 kardas and awl. (That's what I'm saving up for now.:))

I think you'll find this a very nice starter khukuri.:D Good choice!

Paul

Interesting to note you already understand you need at least two or more of each in case something happens to your user version. Astute reasoning. ( Three of each is even better ).

That sounds right to me, Paul, and thanks for letting me know.

But, sad news is I've sold out of the plain YCSs for now. We'll get more. Stay tuned.
