Can't decide on which brand of sunglasses

Hello guys. Kinda new to this forum and have a question. I lost my Ray-Bans and need a new pair of sunglasses. I have narrowed it down to either Smith or Maui Jim. Which do you guys prefer and why? I have also decided I am going to go with brown(tortoise) frames, with brown polarized lenses. This is just in case I happen to stumble on my black Ray-Bans somewhere here in the house. I have looked at other brands and have found aspects that do not fit me, so these two are just about my only choices unless I have missed something you guys might can suggest. Most of my time outdoors is spent fishing, camping, hiking, and due to a stroke of good luck chopping wood all summer for the upcoming winter. All comments and advice are greatly appreciated.

Go to Walmart....as much as I hate the place.....and go to the optical dept.Get an eye exam , pick out a frame and get some high quality, scratch resistant, polarized lenses.
Scrip or no scrip.
You'll have less than $100 in the deal unless you go with a Flexion indestructible frame, which I highly recommend.

I don't know much about either brand you mentioned. I wear Oakley's myself. I use them as safety glasses too since they are ANSI Z87.1 rated. I also wear them while riding motorcycle.

I have heard good things about Maui Jim. I would just pick out a style you like and go with it.

I wear Serengeti for driving. Everything else I wear I make sure are ANSI approved safety glasses with UV protection. The brand is irrelevant as long as they're approved safety glasses with amble protection for my eyes from physical and UV. When I'm in the woods I'm all 'bout function rather than fashion.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice. Toucan Oasis, I have not even been in a Wal-Mart parking lot much less inside one in more than eight months. I decided one day that I would rather pay a little more and shop my local backpacking store and grocery store to keep my money in this area. It has paid off well too cause now after lots of purchases, I get a flat across the board discount on all my purchases at the backpacking store. Thanks again though, I appreciate it.

As mush as I like oakleys for toughness and coolness, the plastic lenses scratch easily. I'd recommend getting raybans or some maui jims. The glass lenses are better quality and cut down glare more. If your worried about saftey then I'd do oakleys though. They are super tough. Hope this helps.

+1 on Oakleys. As stated above, they meet/exceed ANSI Z87, they come in Polarized, and provide 100% UVA, UVB, and UVC. I have a pair of 2.0 with Amber polarized lenses that provide protection/glare reduction enough to wear outside in an Arizona summer, yet they allow enough light transmission to be worn indoors.

Have you considerd a pair of Cosat Del Mars? I have a pair and many people I know do also. I have never heard anyone complain about them. My girlfriend bought her a pair after I showed her the difference when looking at fish last summer.

I have not checked out the Costa Del Mars. I did however wind up going with the Smith's due to my local backpacking shop making me a good deal on them. They have a type of transition glass lens that gets darker with brighter conditions. They apparently are the choice for the fly fishermen here and in the surrounding areas. Thanks alot for the input.

P.S. I wore oakleys for years and really became frustrated with the straight earpieces. I wished they offered more shades with the bent earpieces.

+3 on Oakleys. I have the Straight Jacket, Half Jacket, and the Whisker. I've worn Oakleys since I was about 16 and have never bought another brand. They are expensive but you do get what you pay for.

Don't worry about brand. Get something that fits well, has quality lenses, and looks good to you.

The Maui Jims get great reviews. I bought a pair about two years ago, and couldn't wear them.
They caused eye strain. I took them back and they told me that the polarization is a little different, and for some people they can't wear them.
Its not a common thing, but something to think about, especially if you buy online.

I bought some clip ons for my regular glasses. 10 bucks and they work fine

Buy the brand that fits your head, face, and nose the best. It's not likely to be the same brand that fits someone else the best.

'My' brand is Bolle. Good quality, affordable, and the best fit for me.

Happy shopping!

Maui Jim all the way. I switched from oakleys and other brands and haven't looked back.

Maui Jims period..

I have been wearing them for over 15 years..best lenses and service is on Par with Busse or EssE

I ran over my Mauis once with my 4 wheeler..I sent them back to maui with a note saying..please call me with an estimate and I will pay to have them fixed..next thing I know 4 days later I have a brand new pair in my mailbox..
If you have a Costco nearby, check out their Mauis jims..they run 59 to 79 dollars..
Same Mauis at sunglass hut are 200 plus..

Maui Jims- just try them on. I still remember when I first tried them, my eyes just kind of went " Ahhhh". Must be that different polarization mentioned above. Plus, 3 different optometrists I know all recommend them, they say they have the best optics. Like I said, just try them on before you make up your mind.

Smith's are all i wear, i have 4-5 pairs. They make great glasses and also have great customer service. You wont go wrong with any of their optics.

Oakley's fit me the best. Get what fits and feels good then go for looks. Cool pair of shades that are uncomfortable aren't worth it. Oakley's are perfect for me.
