Can't Find Insulated Fire Brick!!!!

That is a pretty good deal. There is a company here in town that sells them but they are not so generous. They want 3.30 each and you have to buy a case of 10 minimium, which is not terrible. I can also get satanite there to, but only in 50 lb bags at a time.

I did the search for refractory per your recommendation using Yahoo yellow pages and called the first company on the list and they are a major refractory supplier in my area and after describing what I needed they are able to help me though the gentleman that I spoke to gave a little chuckle when I told him the amount I needed. Probably not used to such a small order but since they were the only ones in the area able to help me I said that I would just buy a case of 20 which he is going to sell to me for $40 and he's even going to give me the cement for free since the stuff they sell comes in 55 gallon drums. Here's their link, very friendly people so far.

Thanks again to everyone that responded to my question. I know for sure that I will have many more questions on bladesmithing.

Thing about refractory places is they are used to dealing with working people. I have always had good luck with them, although I usually meet them in the field. Their prices are better because they usually deal in the stuff by the ton. I have been given ridgidizer, bricks, bags of scrap pieces of Koawool etc. Glad you got hooked up. Jim

I don't think you'll regret having those extra bricks. I bought a case of 20 and used several for one brick forges at first, and the remainder for lining my home built heat treating oven.

Sorry for the last post, but when I submit my posts on here I always get "page not found" and always have to go back to the home page and re-navigate back to here. Anyway here's what I posted.

Went and picked up my brick last Friday and it turned out to be a great day. The guy that I spoke with on the phone at Onex ended up giving me 15 soft brick and a soft brick saw for FREE which was totally unexpected. Although he didn't have any open containers of the cement which is what he told me he would just give me if he had an open one but only ended up charging me $10 for a 50lb bucket which should last quite a while unless I build a outdoor brick pizza oven. Then I drove across town to a metal supplier and they just happened to have a piece of 01 flat stock tool steel that was 55" long .25" thick and 2" wide for a decent price and I didn't have to wait for it to be shipped. All in all last Friday turned out to be a great day and really got me excited to start building my first knife. This week at work I have constructed a simple 2 brick forge and will take it home this weekend to see how it works.
