I have spent over an hour looking around the internet trying to find a camping knife to my taste but can't seem to find anything decent for under $100 so I figured I would come ask here as last time I was looking for something I was having a hard time finding you guys helped me out. What I am looking for is an 7-8-inch (12-inch overall length) fixed-blade camping knife with a saw back, textured rubber grip (Like the kind on SOG knives) and a Bowie or similar shape. For some reason despite this not being a very long or unusual list of requirements finding all of these things in a mid-priced knife around $50 or so has proved impossible. I found a few that seem to meet the requirements but are overly cheap and not made of good steel. The closest thing I have found is the link below but I am not sure there is enough texture to the grip and am not sure if it is decent quality as I don't know much about knife brands. Any help is appreciated.

Out of your price range but I like to mention this model when saw-backs come up as it’s one of very few that actually functions as a wood saw.

This is my Swamp Rat SawManDu.

Because of the full-flat grind and pull-action, it works very much like a Silky Saw (although obviously slower). It creates a kerf that is wider than the blade so it doesn’t bind like saber-grind saw-back knives tend to do. Also it’s made of SR77 which is a version of S7, so very unlikely to break. 👌

scdub scdub , I have always been a vocal opponent of saw back knives. But if you would be so kind as to share a few more pics close up of that knife, particularly the saw portion and maybe from a few angles, I would be super grateful!

I’ll see what I can find. I’ve been stubbornly procrastinating finding a photo hosting site and since the picture freeze I’ve just been scrounging through my old posts to copy/paste. I can tell you that the teeth aren’t complex, just simple cut-outs. It’ll chop through a branch faster than it’ll saw through one, but the saw allows for very straight cuts very easily for crafting projects.

Very cool looking and I'm sure it works just fine .

But it also looks to be ,potentially, an "accident ready and waiting to happen" .

Like all such designs , with a sharp exposed blade, facing up at you, when using the saw spine .

I can't remember the last time I made contact with the spine of my saw during use. 🤷‍♂️

If he cutting a live tree down the blade is likely to be horizontal, sharp edge out, at about waist height. Pretty painful if someone should inadvertently walk into it.

Not looking to antagonize you (hoping to motivate reassessment), but I'm finding some contradiction in what we've learned of your situation after reading page one only. You say one tool only, but state you're already at two with a Leatherman. You say convenient belt carry, but are looking at somewhat long knives at 12" oal. Please let me know if I've misconstrued those specs.

My $0.02 of opinion aligns with those advocating a knife & folding saw combo to get best functionality in both cutting & sawing arenas.

For your $100 you could get a Corona folding pruning saw at Home Depot for around $20 or equivalent saw elsewhere in the same price range. With $80 left over, there a re lots of options, as will no doubt be recommended by fellow BF members.

Best of luck with your search.

That looks to be more of a serrated spine than a wood saw per se ? IDK .

I have an old Spyderco Warrior with a serrated spine . It will cut , but it is not a saw . Great fighting knife , but not a saw .

Saws work by removing material , serrations (ideally , when sharp ) slice /cut through cleanly . More or less .

I have the Mossy Oak Overwatch and it may be what you are looking for. I'm not sure about the quality as I feel the handle may be a bit loose and has not been taken into the field yet for testing.

If you just gotta have 7 inch blade, and $100 limit, you might check ebay for used kabar military knives. Your stated needs match up well with these. I'm retired military, and any knife surviving in the hands of inexperienced 18 year olds using it for everything under the sun is worth consideration.
