Can't seem to wash my Sebenza.

I wash/rinse mine regularly with warm/hot water.
Afterwards I shake it to get the excess water out and wipe it down with dishcloth.
No problems.
For larger debris i use a paint-brush and toothpicks.
It's amazing that the CRK Grease stay's put.

I wash all of my CRKs all the time in the sink under hot water with mild soap. No problem. The grit is usually a dirty track for the detent ball and sometimes washing with plain water seems to make this worse. It helps to use hand-soap to loosen any accumulated gunk on the track and ensure the ceramic ball can slide freely over the steel (which it will without grease). The grease stays well enough in the pivot even with regular washing due to the nature of the CRK Teflon lube.. After a couple years of this behaviour all I have to show for it are super smooth knives, no rust, no issues. I would guess you are not cleaning it enough, and there is no reason to break it down all the often.

Try washing it with hand soap and see if that works.

Is the detent ball ceramic in all Sebenzas, or only the 25 and Umnumzaan?
I though it was just the latter two styles.

It is ceramic in the 21, just not used as the lock interface like the Umnumzaan, 25 and Inkosi. I don't know how long CRK has used ceramic though, other's can fill us both in.

Flush with brake cleaner, and use a drop of oil in the blade pivot area.
No reason to take it apart.

CRK recommends using grease, not oil. They say it gives better lubrication and protection.

I use synthetic oil and my large original bg-42 Regular has been my EDC for 15+ years.
My lockup is 60-70%.
Haven't had mine apart in years.
I live in the Mojave Desert, so this knife sees plenty of dirt and grit.

Sebenzas are fairly rust proof, but it probably helps that I live in a drought ridden part of Ca.
I often pocket my sebenza still wet after a quick rinse and have never seen a smidgen of rust, ever.

I haven't opened the sebenza in about a few months either, even with daily use. The cardboard I cut daily does make it gritty really fast, what I do is place my sebbie in a bowl in the sink and run hot water for a few minutes, shake and pocket. Returns to glassy opening after that. I used to open and clean much more often but found hot water in the bowl for 5 minutes works really well.

That seems easy enough. I give it a shot next time.
