I'm on my way to the Blade Show and should arrive sometime tomorrow. I checked the forums for the first time in weeks and saw a number of topics that I have chosen to respond to in one all-encompassing post.

Canvas vs. Linen

Canvas micarta is cheaper and according to the data spec. sheets it is also stronger! So, you get a higher performance product for less money. In reality the difference in price for us is approx 12-15 cents per knife. I'm pretty sure we can swing the extra cost. INFI prices out at about $32.00 per pound when other steels cost about .50 cents per pound. If we wanted to save money, that would certainly be the area in which to cut our costs. Our tests have, likewise, shown that due to the coarser fabric in the canvas micarta that it is less slippery than the linen variety. We used linen exclusively until 1994 when we discovered the difference. Again the difference in cost is insignificant and the canvas micarta is stronger and less slippery.

Where's our Paleo website?

Don't get too excited but we have a new and exciting website on its way. When? 8-10 weeks. The old one should be back up and running on a different server within the week.

Sasquatch sighting!

Sasquatch lives! . . . and he's in Atlanta! Visit the Busse Booth and say hello.

Jerry--
You'll be receiving a knife from me there at BCK headquarters in Wauseon by the time you get back. No reason to go into particulars here, but I failed to include my e-mail address so you could respond that way, if that's easiest:

strongyork@aol.com

Since your site is down, I haven't had a way to send along that info. Sorry to use this format, but thought it might save time and hassles when you get back home.

Thanks and Have FUN--Will York

Interesting Jerry. Sounds like the show is going well.

I do not know about cost of Micarta, but I will say this: I have used these blades with both regular Micarta, and canvas Micarta, in situations where the handles are wet with blood and water. There is no comparison between the two. Canvas is all I will use in those situations, should I have the choice. Also, a HUGE difference in ability to grip while wearing a leather glove handling the knife, when wet. As for strength, I have never broken a Micarta handle of either type.

If canvas is cheaper, great. One of the few instances where you get something far better for a little bit less.

Keep those grinders going full steam
