Car buying - what kind of deposit?

All,

Thank you for your help. I finally bought a 2007 RAV4 2 weeks ago. I looked at the CR-V, Pilot, and Highlander, and the RAV4 was simply a better car. I got the top of the line, with the 269HP V6. I really miss the manual transmission, but it seems that it's becoming less and less available.

In my search, I found the Consumer Report articles invaluable.

Not sure if you get downtown much, but I would not miss manual shifting going ANYWHERE from downtown over the hill, especially on a wet day(300 days a year);)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Nice choice
The V6 isn't available arround here, you get only the 152hp gasoline, the 136hp and 177hp diesel (typical for Europe), but you can have the manual transmission on all models :D

If I were in France, I would probably get one of the French car. Since you're paying the taxes, you might as well take advantage of the subsidies... ;) Plus, *some* of those have a great design. I don't like the design of the new RAV4 much...

STeven, the manual shift is much faster than the auto. I had never realized how much of a difference it made.

If you were in France, you better buy ... Toyota. They are cheaper, way better made, more comfortable and much more reliable than any French car made nowadays. You wouldn't beleive the number of die-hard French car owners that changed to Japanese and German cars. I have a coworker that gets everything 40% off for his Renault Laguna (brother works for Renault) ... and still wants to change due to reliability issues.

Interesting, I didn't know that. My parents have had Citroens their last 2 cars, and they seem to have been happy with them. I am not surprised.
