Car gadgets -when will it end

Excellent idea. My Lincoln had a big tank and got excellent mileage. If you only stoped to wee when you needed gasoline, your eyes would be yellow. :D

I once knew a guy who was a home handyman and had an old 1 ton van. He often packed a cooler full of beers for long trips. In order to keep rolling, without interuptions, he drilled a hole in the floor boards and mounted a tranmission funnel on his seat so he could drain himself instead of stopping. True story.

I want devastating ray of death. Or atleast minigun mounted on a roof (anyone remember "Quarantine"?) :D

And no maintenance required would be nice thing too :)

A car that drives itself. It's not that I don't enjoy driving, but it would really make my commute a lot more enjoyable or my 12-hour drive to our vacation a lot more fun. I could read, play guitar, play games with the other passengers (games to be limited only by your imagination), or in the case of my morning commute... sleep. In many ways, it would be like public transportation only it would be ubiquitous, clean, convenient, and everybody wouldn't be forced to stop just because one person wants to get off.

The downside to this system is that it would certainly lead to more people driving even further since it's less of a strain.

Ford Superduty Now has a F-450 version, tows 24,500 lbs !! You can tow your whole house !!

they go all the way up to a F-750 aka (small dump truck). the 450 and 550 models used to be flat-bed only. Now you can get the 450 with a pickup style bed. IIRC

Plus, everyone would want to ban human-operated cars and make all cars exclusively computer driven because there would be less accidents. I enjoy driving too much to ever want that to happen.

The cup cooler/heater makes sense if you think about it. Most cars already have AC and all cars generate heat - just run an extra duct down the transmission tunnel and you have a heated or cooled cup holder. Probably costs them $4 in parts. Cheaper and simpler than heated seats.

Trust me, these cupholders are not cooled or heated by means of waste heat or by AC. It's just electrical gizmo, probably Peltier heat pump. Another thing to go wrong  :D

The relatively new gadget that I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE comes on vehicles that toot the horn when some lazy SOB walks away from it and uses his or her "keyless entry" transmitter to lock their doors. I mean, just how lazy and incompetent can somebody be who doesn't have enough sense to push the lock button on their door as they get out of the vehicle?!? :jerkit:

The advantage of that is you can't lock yourself out. In a way it's a return to the good old days when the only way to lock the car was with the key.

Whether it really has to toot the horn is another question....

On many cars using the door lock button will not arm the alarm, but using the remote will, so I don't see how it has anything to do with incompetence.

get a single wheel Dodge diesel with a 3.XX axle ratio 6 speed manual then put a chip in it for saving fuel.

you will get 20+ miles per gallon.

one reason that the trucks don't get mileage is they are made to work. that means hauling that means low gears in the rear end. if you want mileage get a car.

you want your cake and eat it too.

That's where Rancheros and El Caminos came in. They were both and neither but my '69 El with a 327 still gave me 20 mpg plus on the highway and I could move most of my stuff. An updated turbo diesel El would be nice...........or give me back a Jeep Liberty or even a Wrangler with a turbo diesel. Frickin' EPA/California Air Pollution Nazis!!!! Suprised they haven't figured out a way to restrict human farting and limit methane pollution yet!!!

:D

it can be done now with a good GPS if the gov would let the restrictions off

A 40mm cannon mounted in the grill so I could blow off the rear end of all the ###holes who cut me off or do other stupid things.

What other gadget would you like ?
I want a sight activated minigun on the roof of my truck... like the system they have in the blackhawk helicopters. A couple of fixed ma-deuces in the back would be ok too.
