Thumb rest/jimping,
The lower (choil) jimping is also usable with the blade in the open position.

Finally, a little whittling/stake carving with the help of both versions... (each one at its own end of the stick... :) )

In my opinion, both models are good, strong folders, especially for the price. The major difference between them is the grind of the blades. The original model is hollow ground and the Cara Cara2 has a full flat grind. Blade steel is the same, they both slice and cut well. The blade of the newer model is about 3/16" shorter than the original for some reason. The little, threaded fastening holes for the pocket clip by the pivot screw, go through the panel and the liner as well, all the way. So, you can see the phosphor bronze washers underneath. I think that's not very good... for one thing, it's not very pleasing to look at and more importantly, dirt, dust and mud can get in the pivot point very easily. Personally, I like the original version more (mostly because of the looks, but that's a question of taste...).

Thanks for looking!

Wow! Thank you kindly for taking the time to do this as I've been wondering how the models compared!

I have an old FRN version, the G-10 is a lot cooler, and the FFG is just supreme. Thx for a nice report.

my brother has the 1st edition & after losing a s&w 38 & 3 spydies cutting cedar on his ranch, went to this inexpensive knife. in 3 years or so it has pried, dug holes & cut wire.a great knife that keeps coming back for more, probably the 1st low cost knife that could keep performing.

Thanks for posting, good review, I just found CC 1 in a box with no clip on it, poor little dude, he's due for some attention. I still like the 1's blade profile and hollow grind, its just personal preferences though...

Thanks for the great pics, I'm a big fan of the CC and also of FFG...but not of the 'fools tip' that Spyderco puts on some of their models. Or am I mistaken?

I have carried an Endura for about 10 years and tried to replace it with all sorts of folders. I always end up coming back to the Endura. I recently was given a Cara Cara, half serrated. While I'm not crazy about half serrated knives in general I was very impressed with the quality of the Cara Cara and it's near identical handling and carry characteristics with the Endura. In fact it is obvious that they have transferred many of the Endura upgrades to the Cara Cara, such that IMO it is a better knife in terms of design than my Gen 1 Endura.

not my photo

BTW the Cara Cara is a South American Hawk, the kind that land on my roof here every day. I see them every time I go to the bush as they are very prolific here in Central Brazil. Most Americans I have ever heard pronounce the name put the accent on the first syllable CA-ra CA-ra. The correct pronunciation is on the second syllable, ca-RA ca-RA, which makes sense if you have ever heard one, that is exactly the sound they make caRAcaRA.

My original Cara Cara is still plugging along after nearly 3 years of abuse; and yeah, the faux tip was the first to go as well as the grind but the steel is easy to work with so no drama.

Awaiting delivery of the II.

Wow great shots of the knives in action. Thanks you. I never handled the first one but I really like the 2nd that I have.

Thank you a lot for this review. A friend of mine here in Turkiye has a stainless steel handle and when I was with him to check his knife he told me that a good but a heavy knife. Then I changed my mind to buy a Raven with FRN handle. Hope to see G10 handles in Turkiye too, it's not available now.
Regards,
TT

Thanks for posting these photos, they are very clear and well done. The Cara Cara was the first modern folder I really liked. The revised Cara Cara 1 made it thinner and lighter, which was good, but this fixes even more things I didn't like about the first. The more rounded pocket clip will be more comfortable in the hand and I know without a doubt the full flat grind will be a nice addition for me. I actually hand ground an original Cara Cara to a flat grind on diamond benchstones, hahah.

I typically carry a Police 3, but the Cara Cara 2 looks like a perfect cheaper, beater version of the P3 for times when I'd expect to get pretty dirty.

So, cara cara2 vs the tenacious?

I'm glad to see spyderco making more and more full flat knives. Quite dislike sabre grinds.

So, cara cara2 vs the tenacious?

I have both and have a slight preference for the Cara Cara 2 as it feels (even) more solid.
Now, if only Spyderco would release it with a normal round Spyderhole...

Hi Switchblade,

Thanx much for the spread and review. appreicate.

Hey Pict,

Thanx for the lesson on pronunciation. I designed the knife and I named the knife, and I didn't know the correct pronunciation.
