That's not something I would recommend nor I would do on a regular basis.

No, there's no blade play, whatsoever.
I don't think the pivot diameter is smaller on the second generation, it's just the head (of the pivot) diameter (although, I did not take them apart to check...). You can find the same difference between the original G10 and FRN models. Perhaps someone in the know will chime in and confirm.

I've got one of the originals too and recently thought about trading it, but this post has me re-thinking that! I hate having a Chinese made knife, but I own it, so I may as well use it! I reckon it would be an ideal day-hike knife if I just carry a folder with me.

These are decent low-cost but NOT low-quality knives. Prefer G-10 to FRN on them. An impressive buy I feel.
