Everything is Titanium besides the hardware which is stainless steel, I used self lubricating phosphour bronze washers.

One has a removable neon green backspacer! It has more green on the butt end of the knife anodizing wise also...

Very cool! How does one sharpen a carbide edge? How does the carbide compare to steel as far as chipping, etc.?

Hi and thanks! :D

It'e very easy to sharpen a carbide edge and most setups work well. I recommend a ceramic, diamond or even sandpaper setup. Just build up a small burr and strop off, the burr will take a bit less than steel to build up but longer to remove.

Chipping is not an issue as the tough Titanium backs the carbide, I'd compare it to some of the tougher steels like 5160, S7, etc.

The carbide won't wear off or flake away... the combo needs very little maintenance and can even be self sharpening on abrasive materials.

I recommend Titanium with Carbide for cardboard, meat, veggies, rope, utility, etc... for bushcraft or chopping I'd stick with steel. My EDC is my Ti Backpacker model, I use it for everything I do and never do anything to keep it up.


I did this hard use video just to show what Ti and Carbide can do. I didn't design this or the Backpacker as a hard use knife but it was fun to see how far I could push the materials. The knife in the video is only .090" thick with thin edge geometry and even took stabbing and heavy twisting in aged hardwood. The knife came out of the test with two microchips that I didn't even notice during the video, they took about 30 seconds to sharpen out.
