Looking for a carbon Blade Slippy probably in a Mini Trapper (3.5ish), Whittler or a Stockman. Under 4.00 closed preferred
What Brand would you suggest in a nice quality looker/user? I am looking to buy either primarily a real USA or real German made knife but am open to suggestions.

I have been looking at Case, Boker, German Eye, German Bull, Bulldog, Robeson (new production is stainless???) H&R but would like to know your experiences on these or others suggestions and what to stay away from if any. I read about some German knives made in China so I would rather avoid these.

I have some Queen D2, S&M ats-34 and some Case SS already.
No I don't need one I just want one :)

Case makes a mini trapper and med stockman in red bone CV and Yellow delrin CV, the med stockman is also available in amber bone CV.
All of these are about 3.5 inches. Another nice knife is the small Texas jack in amber bone CV. All of these fit your bill. I have bought a few Case knives recently and they are all top notch.
I have been eyeing some Moore Makers and Queens but I am not as familiar with these.
If money is a concern the yellow CV cases are pretty inexpensive so you can give a few a try.

I would agree that if you want a carbon steel knife, you should try a chrome vanadium Case.

I would agree with the Case. However, if you are wanting a mini trapper pattern specifically, the Queen mini trapper is awfully nice. You can find them in 1095 (queen classics) some places, or get a moore maker bone handle 3.5" trapper - which is the same knife - made by queen.

I'm no expert, but I just got a Boker congress with carbon blades and even though I really haven't used it a whole lot the fit and finish of the knife is superb. Its my first Boker and its built like a brick s-house and IMO it feels a lot more solid than my Case stockman.

Second the Queen/Moore Maker mini-trapper. I have a Queen in D2 and it's a fantastic little knife.

gotta go with case in cv, but the ss isn't so bad. queen also sounds good to me.

Great Eastern #73 Scout trapper. The Northfield or Tidioute lines are 1095.

I also like the Bokers. I have a Case CV copperhead I like a lot. I personally don't like the blade profiles on the case trappers.

I have several Boker carbon and Case Cv, both old and new, both brands are similar in quality. Case may have a bit stronger springs, but I like the bone on the Bokers. Joe

I am really impressed by my Moore Maker jigged bone 5301 stockman. Here it is with two Queens:

Another vote for Case CV. If you are looking for natural handle materials Case offers CV in Red Bone and Amber Bone. CV is also available in Yellow Delrin.

I like Moore Makers. However, I ran across some Boker knives this weekend and I bought 4 of them. Fit and finish is great and shaves hair right out of the box.

I've carried a Moore Maker Stockman and Trapper for years and they are hard to beat, but the Boker is a nice one.

You cant go wrong with a case CV like the 6.5 Amber Stockman.
But if you can go to the store and pick one up, a Tree Brand (boker) is a good bang for the buck. I picked mine when i visited the boker factory in Solingen.
I actually got to watch when they assembled my knife.

Queen is offering some very nice carbon steel knives, at the moment. Cumberland Knife Works has the best selection of these knives that I am aware of. The Horns are great people to do business with, too.

I don't have any experience with other carbon steel slippies, but Case. I have been buying and using them for years. I carry a CV yellowhandle medium stockman everyday, a yellowhandle sodbuster CV a lot, and occassionally a mini trapper yellowhandle CV. I've always preferred yellow handles if you couldn't tell. hahaha. Anyway...I've used them for food prep, fruit prep for me and daughters, garden work, field dressing, and of course heavy work chores in my business. The CV will get scary sharp with ease and hold it.

With that said, I would imagine any in 1095 would do awesome also. 2 days ago I found 2 carbon blade REAL Schrade stockmans still in the case at a small hardware store. Of course I bought them both, but I plan to start using one of them. I expect that it will perform as well as my CV.

Thanks for the updates, keep 'em coming please.

Not much experience on the German Eye or Bull knives?

So is the patina on D2 called rust :foot:
