I had been searching for a few years to find a good wholesale supplier of Bog Oak.
What I was looking for was dry blocks without the cracks and flaws you usually find in bog oak. I also wanted to be able to verify the age instead of just saying thousands of years old.
I finally found a small company overseas who recovers and processes bog oak logs.
We started out with a small sample order so I could evaluate the quality and see the wood in person.
The wood arrived quickly and the quality was near flawless. When I checked the moisture content it was from 6% to 8% which is just right.
Since the wood was even better than I expected I placed a larger order.
When the blocks arrived they were labeled with which logs they were cut from and a copy of the lab carbon dating reports. Some of the darkest black ones are over 5000 years old and the lightest colored ones just over 2000 years old.
These are some of the Bog Oak Blocks.
These are natural wood, it has not been stabilized.
When I cut and sanded this wood I found it to be considerably harder and denser than normal oak.
The wood has a natural luster and when the light hits it from different angles bands of dark charcoal, brown and olive colors show themselves.
I am very impressed with this wood.
So far I have added about a dozen of these blocks to our web store. The prices on these start at $30 and go up a bit for the oldest pieces.
This link will take you there if you want to get some of these.
