Carbon fiber handles?

It's a bit lighter than G-10, technically stronger but a bit "chippier"...the only real benefit is looks, which I'm ok with🤷‍♂️

I love them, although IMO every knife doesn't feel suited to them. I've owned a few over the years and never had any durability issues. Some manufacturers make it look cheap even though it isn't, but when it's done well it's great stuff.

Buying them is a bit like buying horn-handled knives, though: I always need to see more of the knife up close than I would with G10 or micarta, to check for major voids and chipping.

The only variety I've never warmed up to is the stuff with wire in it. Even in pictures, it just looks too likely to have little wire nubbins sticking out along the edges.

Carbon fiber can be sculpted nicely. The Southern Grind spider monkey is sculpted a the end for better grip pulling from the pocket but smooth and rounded everywhere else. Really well done and not something you see with G-10. G-10 is normally just a flat slab.

Don’t you just love the SG Spider Monkey? I didn’t get a CF but wound up with a House Of Blades exclusive blue textured G10. There were 50 made. I carry it a lot.

Cf makes a design lighter. I look at a design and see of there is an option for cf, and what trade off would be for weight. It is slick yes, but you have some knives to work with and some to be more classy, the cf is that.

Benchmade is amazing weave patterns with the 940-1

Sticking with weave, inlays from Freeman are spot on

Marbled cf is my preference when possible

Civivi even does a great job with cf

I don't like thumbstuds generally. It is my only thumbstud knife. That says a lot. No one else has a design I really care for. Everything else I have is a flipper, spydie hole, or automatic.

I love the look and ergonomics of the handle. It cuts well, is pretty light. However, I have large thumbs and like to put mine on the spine, and the Emerson waveless style makes that uncomfortable. The pocket clip sucks too, but that is more easily rectified. I have a CF clip on mine. While its not my favorite knife, it is very good.

I wish they had made the Bad Monkey in S35VN. However, I have found the edge retention of their S35VN to be a little less than other knives with the same steel, though after the first sharpening that seems to have improved.

I fear for the quality control will drop with the sale to Diamondback Arms. My SM is an early model, serial number 207. The action 5 years later is great. I've yet to disassemble, just added some lube occasionally. It has yet to off center.

Speaking of which, I'm carrying mine today. It was a gift from my ex-wife, so its bittersweet for that.

I do like carbon fiber scales the best; but G10 and Mikarta aren't deal-breakera...

I prefer Micarta, G10 and carbon fiber in that order.

Micarta tends to provide the best grip for me, and is easily re-profiled to fit my hand or roughed up a bit for added texture/traction. I find carbon fiber to provide the least amount of grip even with added texturing.

On any given day, when I pull a knife out of my pocket I say "Gee, I really like this knife." If that knife has carbon fiber on it I'm likely to say "Gee, I really really like this knife."

CF does look nice. I won't pass up a knife if it has CF scales and would be ok with spending a bit more (under fifty bucks more) for it over G10, however I won't go out of my way and spend over a hundred bucks more for it. It's nice, but not that nice.

I don't have strong feelings one way or the other, but with inlays and certain designs it makes a knife look cheap to me. There's a lot of low end stuff with cf along with cf-pattern stickers nowadays.
