Carbon fiber handles

I prefer g-10 for grip and durability.. Carbon fiber if I was and old classy man... Its is a thing of beauty.

In my experience, the surface texture on peel ply CF is considerably more durable than the texture on peel ply G-10.

i kinda noticed that too. but i don't understand. peel ply texture is only "molded" into the resin by a piece of special paper that peels off once dry. it doesn't extend into the CF layer. same process with G10, the carbon or fiberglass in the laminate has nothing to do with that. they may use a tougher resin for CF. or is it placebo effect ?

I absolutely love the look and feel of the carbon fiber on my Sage 1.

I'd definitely recommend picking one up!

According to Jurphaas, the material on the Lum is NOT Carbon fiber at all, it is actually GLASS fiber. So strictly speaking, it doesn't belong to the CF knives family.
It IS beautiful, nevertheless :)

Hmmm..... from Spyderco's website:

Glass fiber manufacturing is part chemical, part mechanical. Strands of glass and carbon are drawn into fibers then heated to high temperatures to expel the majority of non-carbon atoms in a process called carbonization. The process creates filament-like fibers composed of tightly woven chains of glass/carbon that when laminated into sheets makes exceptional knife handles that are lightweight, visually pleasing and wear-resistant.

I think it's probably the difference in the resins used for G-10 and CF, but I freely admit that my observation is an opinion based on limited evidence rather than anything scientific. All I can say for sure is that the texture on the CF Stretch II which I've carried a considerable amount in the past three years still looks and feels identical to that on my NIB backup one. I've seen G-10 knives that were developing smooth spots around the edges of the handle after less than a year of carry.

I could be wrong, but I'm inclined to think that my method of carry, loose in my back pocket, creates more opportunity for wear and tear on the handle than clipped carry since the knife is trapped between my 250 lb bulk and a chair or car seat a good bit of the time.

I was wondering that too Dennis. On the other hand, the online catalog page for it seems to suggest it contains both glass fiber and carbon. It also calls it a "Chinese Folder Glass Fiber Handle" yet gives it an SKU of C65CF which would seem to indicate carbon fiber. So, perhaps it fits in both worlds.
