For all of you Sebenza and carbon fiber fans, check out the attached picture.

Here is a picture of the backside. I am having trouble maintaing lockup, because the carbon fiber is slick, but should be able to fix it.

Okay. Now, are you showing it or selling it and if the latter, how much?

hey, is this the one that was at the Puyallup WA gun show last weekend? If so, did you get the lock-up fixed? It was amazingly light, but I know you were having trouble with the lock (if it's the same one).

Price please? If you don't want to sell it email me and maybe we can work out a trade. I've got a MOD CQB and a Busse Satin Jack.

It is really an experiment that I did because I had a extra Sebenza and I like carbon fiber. The lock currently doesn't work because the carbon fiber is too slick, I will have to do something different there. So for now, I just have the front scale as carbon fiber with the back as the stock titanium and it works just like a normal one.
To answer a few questions, one, it is solid carbon fiber, not a inlay.
Yes, it is the one at the Puallup gun show last week.
There isn't a price listed because it doesn't currently lock properly and I didn't want to sell the first one. I may in the future offer a conversion for knives as just one side or both if I get it working.

Note to moderator: This may need to move to the "General Knife Discussion/ Custom Knife Forum" section, I couldn't see how to move it, since I doon't want to attach a price.

It would have been nice if you would have mentioned the lock up front.

Any chance of getting in trouble with CRK by making and selling that? It is cool...but doesn't replacing titanium with carbon fiber kinda defeat the purpose of a Sebenza?

happening is that he converted the sebenza to be like an SNG strider. I did that with my sebenza and made the non locking side of G10 material. All you have to do is cut out a duplicate( trace and cut)of non locking side(a bit thicker preferably) drill 3 holes for the pins.Lock should work fine as it is still the same.

I could be wrong here but part of what I love is the lock on my small Sebenza. It would seem that not everyone could fit a lock like Chris Reeves company does. From what I know of carbon fiber, it's strength is it's lightness and it's rigidity, but it's impact resistance is one of it's weaknesses. So if the spine of the blade took a hit, you would go from a nearly indestructable Titanium frame lock (stock Sebenza) to one that might shatter if hit hard on the spine and collapse on your hand. I'm also not sure how well CF would wear in this context. I know I read Tom Mayo mention once about the heat treat on the face of the lock being possibly ruined by someone who was trying to do a little heat coloring of a Ti framed knife.

It seems there is already some question about the lock on this piece.

While I think the carbon mod to a Sebbie might look cool, and I'm a carbon fiber nut, I'm not sure it's practical.

I made the carbon fiber scales because I like the look and wanted to see how it would turn out. The non-locking side turned out well but the locking side so far hasn't. By only replacing the non-locking side, it retains the great lockup feature of the Sebenza and gives it a custom look, just like CRK does with their custom graphics.
As far as the carbon fiber being strong enough, I'm sure it will take all the abuse that you would be willing to subject it to. Yes, if you were to repeatedly strike it with a hammer, I am sure it would break down, but I doubt that you would do that even to your titanium Sebenza.
I wouldn't think that there would be any problem with CRK because I am not selling a knife I made as a "Sebenza", it would be a accessory to a Sebenza that you would have to already own. CRK still sells the same amount of knives.
If you like the looks, great, if not thats fine too, thats the great thing about knives, there is something for everyone.
