Cosmetically I LOVE carbon fiber in handle material, but one of my friends who is also a knife maker said that one you begin to cut the block and shape the material it loses its integrity. Also once you shape it you need to wear protective clothing because its like shaping fiber glass. Is their any trueth in this???

Carbon fiber, in the form of G-10, does not lose it's integrity when you shape it. It is just like a block of wood. The dust is like fiberglass dust, so you should wear a respirator which is rated to use for fiberglass layup and a white tyvex suit to keep the dust off your body - it itches like crazy. Use duct tape around the sleeves at the wrist and neck.
