Hello everybody,

I just had a quick question, is the finish on the carbon fiber the same on all spyderco models? The reason I ask is that in the pictures, the new caly 3 looks much more vibrant, or defined, then for the stretch 2.

Thanks,
Matt.

Doh! I just looked at the spydercos website and answered my own question. It looks like the new Caly 3 has buffed carbon fiber handles, nice!

Yes, Spyderco has used several different finishes on carbon fiber. Their first CF model, the C22 Walker, came in both shiny and matte finish. After that, there were a number of shiny CF handled models, including the Police, Delica, Civilian, and most recently the Harpy. Lately the trend has been to finishes that provide more grip, matte in the case of the Caly 3, "bumpy" in the case of the T-Mag, lightly "waffled" in the case of the Stretch, and extremely "waffled" in the case of the Military.

Thanks for the reply Paul. Do you have any idea when the new Caly 3 is scheduled to be released?

Oh now I feel like a moron! I suppose I must have jumped the gun twice in one thread. I saw a bunch of places (all the places I looked), including the spyderco website, out of stock.

Thanks,
Matt.

Hi C00per,

The Caly3 is a "limited production model". This means that the skilled craftsmen making the knife can only make a certain number per month.

Limited production capacity on certain models makes them harder to get. We just received another shipment and they should be out in the distribution chain soon. Sorry.

Oh thats good news.

Thank you Sal, I appreciate you giving the time to clarify that.
